Dead space 3

Post by Prototype » Fri Feb 08, 2013 11:24 am

Now for those who don't know, I am a huge fan of dead space, and dead space 3 has just been released, and I have ordered it,
What I want to know, moron anyone who has the game, is it good? For I have heard rumours that it has strayed from its roots, but I have also heard that what they have done to it is actually better than DS1 and DS2.

Try and avoid spoilers though (or use the spoiler button)

Microtransactions in the game. Yep, nothing wrong with doing those in a game you have to pay retail price for in the first place. Nooothhiiing aaat allllll...

You'll excuse my bias, but EA have really become moneygrabbing lunatics as of late.

I already knew that, that is what I was afraid of, the only reason I'm making this thread is to find out if EA have screwed this up.

And EA have always been money grabbing lunatics

I finished it yesterday. It's f*cking amazing.

It feels different from DS1 and 2 but different is not always a bad thing. In fact, once you get used to the changes, if comes back down to the same necromorph dismemberment routine and it feels like Dead Space once more.
The coop is awesome ( I highly recommend it, even if it's just to have access to the extra optional coop-only missions), the story is interesting, THE WEAPONS OH SO MANY WEAPON CHOICES.

Really I think those "its not dead space anymore" rumors just started when people saw bads playing the demo a la shooter style. Look, those new necromorphs with the pickaxes, they don't really give you a choice. They're fast and you gotta kill them like three times over. When you're up against them, you will end up just spraying whatever ordnance you're carrying at them until they've been reduced to liquid.

Sounds good to me, but are there any bits like the bit with the hunter in DS1 (as in bits where you literally poo yourself)

I never pood myself at the hunter but there was a part of the game where I had 3 of them running after me. And so much more, but I shouldn't spoil anything for you, that would be unamusing.

A few let's plays have already started about it on youtube though and I've seen the first few episodes and the story line looks alright however the game doesnt look as scary as Dead Space 2 nd the monsters don't disturb me as much :/

Dead space one barely scared me (asides from pooing myself when I got chased by the hunter), but it was pretty good to play.
Dead space 2 wasn't scary, but co-op mode is a hoot, from what I hear.

I'm also told that the final boss is a but like majora's mask? but I don't quite get how, I'll have to play it to find out.

It's hard to scare in video games, all you can do is the old surprise trick when someone attacks the unsuspecting player from the back (Doom 3, after a while you just know when you hear something turn around and shoot the f***er  )

I think what makes a game scary is when you trigger the survival instinct, it is hard but possible if you disable saves and make the player think there is a boss fight around the corner ... every corner.

Hard Core mode, doesn't make it scary but at least you'll be running for your life. You only get to save three times in the entire campaign, ammo and health packs are virtually nonexistant, enemies are tough as hell.

Halo: CE's Flood and Library levels scared the hell out of me the first time I played it through. On legendary. At midnight. Lights out.

Worst possible situation xD

This has got to be my favorite jump scare in the entire Dead Space series.
