Drivers Ed

Post by Dux_Tell31 » Tue Jun 11, 2013 9:08 pm

I'm starting drivers Ed in the morning and I fully expected to be the most boring thing ever. Have any of you done driver's ed before? Because everything I've heard isn't good.

I took it for insurance purposes. It wasn't bad. I don't know how typical the class was but they didn't spend much time talking about the obvious how-to-drive type stuff. Mostly it was things you would normally never learn just by driving around, like vehicle maintenance, weird-ass traffic laws from around the country, step for step what to do in an accident (one you are in or one you come across), how to get out of a skid or improve your gas mileage, and there were some good bits about how to anticipate when other drivers are about to do something retarded, which is a basic tenet of defensive driving.
My instructor once trolled the class with the homework question
"Q: At a four-way stop, which car is it you are actually stopping for?"

A: The one you didn't see.

When I first heard it I thought it was a bit of a cop-out, but it's got a nice zen quality to it.
In my experience, most classes are only necessarily boring if you let them be boring and driver's ed is no exception.

And my main mode of transportation is a motorbike, which I may or may not have managed to park it up a tree unintentionally.

Moral of the story, never ride when the roads are icy, it hurts

Also, always look around when you do anything, I don't know how anal they are about that for cars, but for bikes you need to do that.

And apexing corners isn't the best idea, but unless you do Motorsport you won't have that particular syndrome

Well, as I predicted I didn't like my instructor much. She has a story for every little thing we talked about, and repeated everything she said over and over again. However the last hour of today was the worst, this was when the lady who talked about organ donation came in. In fact she was the recipient herself, which she was very avid about telling us in her lecture. For every story that the original instructor had told us, she must of had three more. The only interesting or humorous thing that today was an announcement over the loudspeaker, for a report card stuffing party with karaoke in the cafeteria.
