I highly doubt they try to sweep it under the rug - the last thing you do when you try to sweep something under the rug is start a giant scandal which is usually a result of such cases discussed in courts. They could simply assassinate him if they really wanted to mop it all or at least make him disappear which they could also do easily and legally BTW.
