Re: Mods are asleep - post firearms
It needs to be reliable, semi-auto isn't necessary but is a plus and auto isn't required at all, clip can be as small as 10 - 15 rounds, common caliber is necessary.Ivan2006 wrote:Okay, Tau, I think what you need is a gun that
-is reliable
-is semi-auto or can be switched to semi-auto for ammo conservation
-has a bullet capacity of at least 25 rounds
-uses a common caliber
Also, it needs to be very portable. Take the AR-7 for example; the receiver and barrel detach completely from the stock / grip and can be stored INSIDE the 16.5" long stock. That's a tad overkill, but it should at least be able to be stored in a fairly small container. The Ruger 10/22 Takedown, for example, breaks down into 2 pieces, which can be stored in a small backpack, which is included with the rifle itself.
Preferably it should be chambered in .22 or .22LR. Although both are tiny, it's a big advantage in terms of storing and carrying extra ammo.
It's not really for apocalyptic situations, it's more of a guarantee that once Obama tries to take our guns, I'll still have a decent firearm that I can conceal and use easily. (Don't think it won't happen.)

I don't think Obama will take your guns, making you take a test or get a licence to show that you aren't stupid enough or psychotic enough to gun down school kids might get less resistance.

The problem is the American people associate guns with 'freedom'. Unlike more contemporary nations which have fought with other types of weaponry for centuries, the US won its independence using firearms and thusly equates them to liberty. That's what all this fuss is about; people seem to think that taking away weaponry is the first step to Obama becoming the next Hitler or some crap.

Wait, they accosiate guns with freedom because they won the dam war of independence? That's like saying everyone should have nukes because they ended WWII with them.

No, bad idea, do you want rednecks running round with nukes, also there is a little thing called MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction), if one country fires nukes, they all fire nukes, like in this video, but more serious:Alduin wrote:good idea actually, no one would mess with anyone because they wouldn't want to be nukedPrototype wrote:Wait, they accosiate guns with freedom because they won the dam war of independence? Yeah, but the only reason blasters aren't effective in the movies is because people use cover. Zombies don't.Prototype wrote:Do you have to charge those? And besides, you can take out more zombies with one swing of a lightsaber than with one shot with a blasterKeon wrote:Nah, you want a blaster.

Re: Mods are asleep - post firearms
Most blasters are pretty crappy weapons, though. They have quite limited range (pistol shots will only travel a hundred meters or so, so even if you're accurate enough to hit someone at that range you can't. Rifles are a bit better, but not much. This is why a lot of the sniper rifles you see in Star Wars games are laser rifles, not blasters), bolts travel fast enough to be dodged (although granted probably not by a zombie), they don't do that much damage compared to real guns (getting shot in, say, the knee with a reasonably sized bullet will result in much of your lower leg detaching from your body. A blaster leaves you with a little burn mark), they're extremely visible (bolts glow), and for the most part they're not terribly accurate weapons. Their only real advantages are ammunition, because you can carry a couple hundred shots worth of blaster cartridges on your belt and the cartridges don't weigh much, and the fact that they're harder to stop with armor than projectiles are. Stormtrooper armor, for example, makes you pretty much invulnerable to projectile weapons (although you can still of course be shot where the armor plates don't cover, which is how the Ewoks killed stormtroopers with arrows at Endor), but would stop only a graze from a blaster bolt. The second advantage doesn't matter much against zombies, but the first one definitely does. I don't think it outweighs the disadvantages, though, especially given that you have to destroy the brain to kill a zombie. Shooting a zombie in the forehead with a blaster would probably give you a ticked-off zombie with a burned head, whereas shooting one with a projectile rifle gives you a dead undead corpse.Keon wrote:Yeah, but the only reason blasters aren't effective in the movies is because people use cover. On the subject of the government taking away guns: No they wouldn't. They would just stop you from buying more guns. I don't think there's really a right answer to that question, although if it came down to it I'm definitely in the gun-hating libtard camp. I saw a proposal once that I think was a joke but was an interesting idea nevertheless. The suggestion was that rather than restricting guns more than they currently are, the government instead require that all privately owned guns be painted bright pink over no less than 90% of their surface area. That way the people who want guns for legitimate reasons, like self defense or hunting or whatever, wouldn't care because it has no effect on how they use their guns, and the people who want guns because guns and I'm in a gang and we have guns and they're cool and threatening and guns and stuff (ie, the people we want to keep guns away from) wouldn't carry them (or at least not as often) because instead of looking cool and tough and gangstery you look like Hello Kitty.

Hmm.
Blasters = Plasma, right? Halo's Plasma Rifles do splendidly against the undead menace. Though I can't remember for the life of me which form of weapon in Star Wars utilized Tibanna Gas..

Re: Mods are asleep - post firearms
Debatable. There's some confliction over that in the Expanded Universe, IIRC. Wookieepedia says they fire "bursts of particle beam energy", but I'm pretty sure I've seen blaster bolts called plasma in other places, so who knows. Blasters use Tibanna gas, and I think the weaponized lasers do too, they just use it differently.Tiel wrote:Hmm.

Anyway, blasters weren't all that effective against the zombies in Death Troopers, and although those guys were a bit more serious than your average zombie I still wouldn't want to be stuck with only a blasted during a zombocalypse.

Re: Mods are asleep - post firearms
The reason that blasters were ineffective there was the same reason Enterprise seems to be running on Chinese hardware - plot device. In most other media blasters pretty much equate to a one shot kill if aimed properly; I can't imagine the enemy being a mindless husk charging towards you without any sort of combat armor would reduce its efficiency.

Re: Mods are asleep - post firearms
But zombies only die if the brain is physically destroyed, and unless you shot them enough times that it cooked a blaster wouldn't really do that. The most important part of zombie hunting is breaking the skull, and that wouldn't happen with a blaster. You'd char the outside all you wanted, but the zombie wouldn't stop. A gaderffi would be an awesome anti-zombie weapon, though, if we're still going Star Wars. TK armor would also make you pretty completely zombie-proof.

A Level 2 Combat Skin is inadaquate. Recommend upgrading to a Level 12 Combat Skin.
