Actually, I heard an AUG is quite good, since it is very simple to fix if it is jammed or something, and reliability is something you´d really wanna have.
It also fires .223 rounds (5,56 × 45 mm NATO), which is also used in the M16 and many sports and hunting rifles, making ammo resupply fairly easily accessable, another thing you want to keep in mind.
just hold on to the clips, as it doesn´t work with the same clips as a M16, so you have to refill them.

If you want to survive, you want a semi-auto to conserve ammo. Use M14. I gae a kit earlier.

Actually, an AUG can be switched between semi-auto and auto fireing, making it a good ammo-conserver as well.

Good point, also I thought this was about actual firearms capable of proving useful in apocalyptic scenarios, not Star Wars armament.
Soo, I think it would be a good approach to define what an ideal weapon would be and then find one that fits the description.

-is reliable
-is semi-auto or can be switched to semi-auto for ammo conservation
-has a bullet capacity of at least 25 rounds
-uses a common caliber
