Mods are asleep - post firearms

Post by Tau » Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:25 pm

So, yeah. Discuss firearms, and knives if you feel like it.

To start: I'm planning on making a small toolkit of sorts for any sort of SHTF / ObamaCENSORED / communist USA conversion / local militia joining scenario. (That wasn't a joke.) Can anyone suggest a good gun + knife combo? I'm looking at either a Henry AR-7 or a Ruger 10/22 Takedown, plus a good-size Spyderco knife, like a Police G10 or somesuch. Maybe a small utility knife as well, like a Victorinox Cadet.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! No outright gun bashing, but debating is fine. Liberals allowed, just no bigots or libtards.

If its what gun I'd want in a zombie apocalypse, it's this (L98A2):
Spoiler:

Only because In the event of a zombie apocalypse, this would be the only firearm I would know how to find, but I also know how to use and maintain ect.

But you probably won't get this in America, British army only ATM.
Also, don't take any of these into a school and start shooting up the place, if you're going to have a gun you better be intelligent enough to know how to use is properly.

Not only do I homeschool, but I have no idea how to properly handle and use anything of a decent size, such as 9mm (nor is a .22 practical for such a shooting, particularly a RIFLE), so that's not an issue, rest assured. The most powerful (and only) round I've fired is a .22LR. Pathetic, I know.

7.62 NATO and M14 have been found to be effective. A knife with the ability to become a bayonet would probably also be optimal. A secondary pistol would supplement the long ranged weapon. Standard kit to have as well would be a firestarter, tinder, jerky, water sanitizer, twine or string of considerable strength, extra munitions, canteen, MRE if available, fishhook, mosquito repellent, and a hat. This is to say, if you want a survivalist kit. If you are just out to shoot things, bring bullets and a knife.

I can't speak to any of the situations listed in the OP, as none of them are things that I worry about at all and thus are not things that I've given any thought to preparing for. I have, however, invested a fair amount of time in readying myself for the zombie apocalypse, and this is the weapon that I have chosen in the event that it becomes necessary:
Spoiler:
Image
That is an AK-47 modified with a much larger magazine and a chainsaw bayonet. Let the words 'chainsaw bayonet' really sink in for a moment. As you can see by the writing on the barrel, this weapon was specifically constructed by someone whose name I don't remember for the purpose of zombie survival. I think it is very nearly the ideal weapon in that situation, even surpassing the traditional shotgun.

Yea that guy probably didn't think about the fact that more ammo per clip doesn't save you from running out of it :[ . I'd put a scope, silencer and prob ak's 7.62s are enough to squash a zombie's brain, though probably I won't find AKs here so I will need to use the fruits of national production - the TAR-21s. They are smaller and weight less then the AK47, I heard they plan to move from the traditional 5.56 to 7.62 NATO rounds for some reason. While the AK47 is defo the most durable I believe the TAR-21 is good enough not to die on me every 12 second like that crappy m-16 they gave us to shoot with at the shooting range ...

It means you can fire longer without reloading, though, which is important if you're facing large numbers of zombies.

Well that only means you are going to spray the precious little metal buddies more efficiently which is not good for your future supplies and probably attract even more zombies. A clear shot in the head with a compact silenced weapon is probably your best way to do it, or even avoid the zombie altogether. I also assume that gunshots are going to attract other humans who might end up even deadlier than the zombies themselves. See that AK-47 is a good setup for a short FPS level with zombies where you need to slaughter them as soon as possible, in real life you will need to survive with the bullets you have there for weeks until you find more supplies, means every bullet counts and if possible it's better not to waste them at all.

I'd want one of those .22 pistols that hold a ridiculous amount of ammo

I'd opt for a melee weapon, like a Fire Axe. Why? It can smash zombie skulls, completely silent, won't run out of ammo, and is built to last. Doesn't require maintenance either. I would have a shotgun for some situations too, a Remington 870.

Zombies? A plane.

Uh, for a gun I don't really know. One of those ones that shoots bullets. I'm not good with guns. Are you allowed to get railguns in the US?

We're allowed to have railguns, but Obama will probably confiscate them along with all the "assault" weapons.

If I were in a zombie apocalypse, I'd get a Henry AR-7 and just use it like a pistol with an absurdly long stock, w/o the barrel (if that's even possible / effective). If I were to join an anti-[REDACTED FOR PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY], I'd get a Ruger 10/22 (preferably a Takedown model) with a decent scope. I'm also looking at the Marlin Papoose for both possible situations.
