Of course, Jesus wasn't his original name, either. It was יֵשׁוּעַ, or Yeshua, which itself is a variant on יְהוֹשֻׁעַ (Yehoshua), whose western spelling would be Joshua.
Q.E.D. The New Testament is actually the story of Josh of Nazareth, but the Greeks screwed up the translation.

On a vaguely related note, there are actually a fair number of people called 'Messiah' in the Old Testament, including but not limited to King Cyrus of Persia and a stone pillar.

The Greeks screwed a lot of stuff in the translation , for example Mousses. It was said that when Mousses left mount Sinai a ray of light lit his path , while ray or קרן (keren) can be both translated as a ray or horn ... GJ that's how you got a horned Mousses !

Also the philosophical parts of the bible have an interesting take on that issue of god leaving the world in "misery" - "God gives, God takes, why do you only accept his gifts and not his sorrows ?" that's what Ayov said to his wife when god put him to a test by basically taking away everything he had. I do agree it is cruel and stuff but this outtake is a sort of different approach to the same issue, seeing the filled half of the cap - you were born with nothing, he gave you something, he can take it as well.

But if God is magic and all-powerful and omnipotent and all that, and the Bible says that he is, why does he need to test us? He could just as easily have made humans perfectly. The only possible answer, if you take the Bible literally and all that, is that that way would have been less fun.

God is supposed to be onnibenevolent, in which case he would be unable to either directly cause harm, or allow it to happen on its own accord

Unless he made humans so that they didn't. Which, if he's as powerful as he's said to be, shouldn't be a problem for him.

Correction, if humans were perfect, they would not have the flaws required to go mad with power, or the reasons to.

Life WILL get boring if you are perfect; and doing things out of boredom can get quite bad too.
If you were really perfect, you wouldn't get bored because perfect people would be immune to boredom.
