Spaceships also divide into the punks ! Warhammer is defo Steampunk, SC I don't even know some of it has a unique touch, have a look at our fellow Jim Raynor ...

As for the battlecruisers I think they are closer to Cyberpunk ? They have a bit more industrial feeling to them.

Nope. Warhammer ain´t Steampunk, as it doesn´t use steam-engines, but it definetly shares some design similarities.
Anyway, considering the society, it´s likely some kind of .-punk genre, since the technological development stagnating is signature for heavy .-punk.
Why it stagnated?
Well, in the WH40k universe, technology ain´t science, it´s the religion.
They believe in the "Machine-gods" bringing life into their titans and spaceships, but in fact, these tech-priests are just glorified engineers and conspirators.

I'm gonna have to go with steampunk. Dieselpunk has plenty of interesting sights, but there is just something magical about steampunk. It's a world built by dreamers who were never informed that their dreams were foolish.

And never realized that electricity was good for more than sending telegrams.

I wonder what the world would be like today if electricity had never developed.... What would replace computers? Would we all be using devices built around nuclear physics, or would this require electromagnetic based devices first? Would've we have gone down a biological path, and developed ways to increase human capabilities, then stated growing bio-tech?

The possibilities are endless.

Not rly considering most of the above require understanding of all that electromagnetic stuff and understanding of all that electrons and particles stuff which leads to the invention of electricity again ...

I never said that we didn't discover electricity and how it worked. I meant: what if electricity wasn't ever put into mainstream use, and an alternate route of human technological development took place. You know that's what I meant, you don't always need to be right (before you accuse me of being hypocritical, I DO always need to be right, for psychological reasons too complicated to explain).

Mortal Engines is complex. It's more post-apoc than anything.
