if we want to populate dreadnaughts without alot of players we need that many npc
so we need something that can quickly make npcs without making them houses and stuff that last idea i like its just hard enough

Not that many; we don't want dreads to crash servers because you need a hundred NPCs. Putting money in a machine and getting a person is just bleh, you shouldn't be able to raise an army overnight.

then put a timer on it and make that they need to be fed and clothed that should do the trick

when you put money in a school system of a couple blocks

you have to wait a couple of minutes then you get a type of soldier
and you have to arm him and every now and then feed them possibly with mess blocks

So basically farming what are suppose to be citizens of your nation with a few blocks in what could be a 5x5x2 building?

not too hard not too easy
just right for such a small part of the mod
maybe we can make it harder later in the process

I'm thinking more along the lines of entire cities.

What if, instead of just stumbling upon an NPC village, it was up to you to spawn new NPCs. And you do this by making a 3^3m enclosed space with a door, a bed, and a container; then the first two NPCs spawn when you place 2 bread and two sets of leather armor (unless cloth clothing is planned) in the container (food, clothing, shelter). Then the NPCs multiply along normal Villager lines. This way, you can found a city anywhere (even underground!) instead of where you just happen to find a village.
I still think this is the best and simplest option.

And for training, I think we should follow the same line as the Mine and Blade mod.

but it would take way too much room
to man a single ship
if i have understand it right we are not doing anything with villages
citys you build with players

if you need a ship with crew
you need a way of fast getting npcs
not having to build them houses

my faction would be troubled big time by that
because we are an nomadic faction
and alot of others will be too

That's not practical at all. You've got to have land somewhere. Where would you get resources and stuff? Mining asteroids is all well and good, but I highly doubt that you'll be able to keep an entire faction going entirely in space.

i never said i was never going to land
im just saying that im a nomadic faction
and on a server were land will fast become a very expensive and dangerous organization [due to bombing and all]
people would be wise to make their real homes on their ships

my faction travels with orb like homes carryd in freighters
those things can be put everywhere and taken without a scond delay
if i know something is coming
whee we are gone

but when people are bound to give all their crew /soldiers/scientists homes
this will be impossible
also 3/4 of all the land of the server wil be used to house npc thats not what we want

Yes it is. That's exactly what I want. That would mean cities, and resources for those cities, and strategic bombing to kill the enemy scientists, and it would generally be awesome. I want to encourage that in any way possible.

A city simulation is impractical for the most part. Maybe something super basic, but not on the scale you are thinking.
We'll be doing good just to handle player antics without worrying about the daily lives of NPCs.

I haven't actually read most of this thread, so I have no idea what you guys have been planning.

Mostly just bickering about how NPCs should spawn and be used. A city wouldn't just be an NPC spawn area, it would also contain things like factories, academies, businesses, market hubs, drydocks, elevators, military facilities, generators, research facilities, and all the other stuff that makes a faction a lot easier to run.

and all those things should be in player hands not npc

im pro citys
and maybe one or two npcs can walk around in it
but real citys have to come natural by player hand
