This is just something I thought could be interesting to do, provided it doesn't get trolled to death.
I recently had a discussion with a friend about what could be considered the greatest game of all time.
It didn't get anywhere
I now wish to see if its possible to find a game that everyone would agree that it could be called the best game ever.
Post your candidates, and we'll see which ones come up again and again.
If you know of a game that you would still play ten years from now, when it has been rendered obsolete, post it here.
My candidates are:
Mother 3 (gba) (has greatest ending ever, best gba soundtrack)
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (gba) (best of the Pokemon games, spent ages playing this)
Half-life (1 and 2) (PC) (simply epic)
Super smash bros (n64) (still play this loads, much fun)
Minecraft (PC) (self explanatory)
EDIT: missed the obvious one, minecraft

Starfox 64 (N64) (I think this was the first game I ever played in-depth. Very fun)
Rogue Squadron 64 (N64) (Practically grew up on this. Best Star Wars game ever.)
Mass Effect (1, 2, 3) (PC) (Excellent story with superb gameplay)
Final Fantasy XII (PS2) (A piece of art in its intricate story, plays well too (moreso than other FF titles)
All the Deus Ex's (PC) (Another great story with the freedom to do whatever you want. Absolutely awesome, HR has epic graphics and gameplay)
Mount & Blade (PC) (Nothing is as satisfying as raising an army of musketeers from local villages and going to war. Somewhat novel, though.)

Sins of a Solar Empire (PC)
Minecraft (PC)
Xevious (Arcade machine (Xevious was released in 1982. It's a surprisingly fun game.))

Ooooh, no. Minecraft gets boring after a few months, never mind after a few years

MLP: The Game?
Definitely a niche market that could be tapped into relatively easily, though.

I love the concept of Eve, just not the P2P.Avenger_7 wrote:Hmm.

It's compelling enough that everyone here has spent thousands of hours on forums about it.Tiel wrote:Ooooh, no. Minecraft gets boring after a few months, never mind after a few years

That's why I don't play it, but it's one helluva well done game.Keon wrote:I love the concept of Eve, just not the P2P.Avenger_7 wrote:Hmm.

Re: Favourite games of all time
TES3 Morrowind (Ah the old elder scrolls classic. While a lot of progress was made since Morrowind somehow the other elder scrolls never achieved that level of exploration and challenge Morrowind offered. )
Deus Ex (The original one had one of the best stories in gaming due to the dark conspiracy surrounding that world and the unexpected turn OFC
. The gameplay was also awesome )
Freespace 2 (Amazing story, amazing level design , even more amazing modding community. This game looks nice with some updated polygons and textures even to this day)
Mass Effect 2 (It is hard to tell why I liked ME2 - it was a combination of facts. Probably the good gameplay, nice storyline (though a bit too much crew collecting
) and finally the choice system - Sheppard became the one I wanted him to be)
Praetorians (It is hard to top the level of strategy this game was offering. So much use of terrain, units etc. The campaign level design was also quite epic. )
Company of Heroes (The old RTS classic. The only game that could challenge Praetorians and maybe even be more strategic ... hard to judge though)
Gothic (The game is usually much underrated but it's unique feeling is something not every game can achieve. Also quite challenging - You might find yourself running for your life quite a lot
The first one is indeed the best, others kind of meh )
there are probably more but here is what I thought of right now.

I used my two week free trial, loved it, payed one month then dropped it because it would have cost too darn much.Tiel wrote: How would you know if you've never played it..?
