When I first saw you new build, I just thought "oh cool, he's finished the thrusters for his super cool ship!" Then I read what you wrote and was thoroughly disappointed. You should just slap that on the end of your mining ship, call it a thruster, and be done with it! It's even the same color scheme!Spoiler:

Re: Wings of The Schmetterling
Okay, I tried finishing the mining ship. All I did was make it worse. If any of you feel that you could salvage it, I'll give you the download and wish you luck.
The giant space gun is going well. I've start to build a (massive) ship around it. I really like this new building style I've got, and it'll keep me motivate to build this puppy.
Here's a screenshot. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

The ship I'm building that these guns are on isn't a war-worthy vessel.MrTargareyan wrote:Dr. Mackeroth wrote:Okay, I tried finishing the mining ship. All I did was make it worse. If any of you feel that you could salvage it, I'll give you the download and wish you luck.

Re: Wings of The Schmetterling
Excuse the double-post, but I decided to have some fun with the Battlestar Galactica and my new laser. Needless to say, my new laser won. Of course, it wasn't really a fair fight: my new laser has thousands of years of technological advantages at its disposal, and no ship attached to it that could be effected by the BSG's weapons. Anyway, here's a picture of what my laser looks like when its firing, and the damage it does. I took some more screenshots, but by that time, both the ship and my cannon had starting burning.
Also, no one has worked out what's special about this cannon yet. Hint: it has four barrels, but only one fires...

Is it kinda like the tau railguns being able to interconnect in 40k, the other barrels feed the main one, btw, i filled my bullet with tnt, started frapsing and lit it up next to my auraxis class. It froze for about 20 mins but it did more damage than thatDr. Mackeroth wrote: Also, no one has worked out what's special about this cannon yet. Hint: it has four barrels, but only one fires...

No. The answer:MrTargareyan wrote:Is it kinda like the tau railguns being able to interconnect in 40k, the other barrels feed the main one, btw, i filled my bullet with tnt, started frapsing and lit it up next to my auraxis class. Spoiler:
You MAC is undoubtedly more powerful. However, how much do the bullets weigh (and therefore, how much inertia do they carry) (and how much would each cost to make??!)? How many bullets can you store on your ship? 25-30, didn't you say? Enough to take out a capital ship, if it didn't have powerful shields. How long does it take you to reload your gun? How do you reload it? How much energy does each shot take?
Why your cannon may do a lot more damage, it is important to realize that an energy-weapon doesn't need to be reloaded (although my cannon will start melting if the beam is fired for too long, hence the multiple barrels), and don't require half you ship to become an ammo locker. Also, the picture I took was only when the gun was stationary. It is designed to cut ships in half. The section the 3 cannons are mounted on rotates (or it hopefully will....) to be able to cut a ship clean down the middle. Also, my ship has 7 of these on it (in the current design), and the ship can fire from the front or both the sides. Or all of them at once! A giant MAC can't do that; it requires the ship to maneuver into position.
If I say "also" one more time, I'm going to commit suicide. So: AND BY JOVE: a bullet full of explosives can be hit by a flack cannon, a laser beam cannot.
Just a random note: the maximum safe time the beam can stay on for (before the barrel starts melting) is 5.4 seconds. Plenty of time to tear a ship apart.
The cannon works similar to the weapons in this video (most similar to the Ancient one at the end of the video):

Re: Wings of The Schmetterling
Okay, I have a title and plan for this new ship. Despite being twice the size of my carrier, I think it will be a lot easier, as the design is highly modular. I can it the "Peregrin" (wanderer in Ancient, not the bird).
My current plan has it at 1.4 km, and I still have a good 1/2 of it left to draw up. Here's a picture of the plan (just a rough sketch) (attached to end of post)

Re: Wings of The Schmetterling
Yes, but finishing a one of more kilometre ship is the real challenge, what happens is you get halfway, then go make another ship, and forget to finish the big one, Myself Billy and maybe Mack (IDK if you are still working on the carrier) are all guilty of doing this.CatsVsNinjas wrote:It seems like everyone is working on their one or more kilometer ship now.blockman42 wrote:the plans look coolDr. Mackeroth wrote:Okay, I have a title and plan for this new ship. Re: Wings of The Schmetterling
No, it's an intergalactic colony ship with a big hokin' space-gun. This ship needs to survive 100s of years away from any sort of back up, in a completely unknown environment, full of potentially hostile aliens. If I didn't put guns on it, I'd be an idiot.Commander Error wrote:So a colony ship has a "big horin' space gun"? What?

I've been taking pride in my work. It took an hour and a half to build this portion of wall, which is 1/50 of the total length of the ship....
