Greifing will be very difficult, and if the mechanics are anything like sky lands, grieving is totally legal outside spawn, right? Or is that info outdated.

However I used cracked servers for a while, and generally they run quite well, they are almost identical to normal servers, except notch and Honeydew and other unoriginal cancerous youtubing bumweasels apparently join, which is very annoying.

Cracked servers never end up so well...

Jackasses are generally too stupid to be able to use a proxy, that's why they are jackasses

I'd say cracked servers and normal servers have equal jackasses, except on the cracked, it's generally the same jerkass,
Unless he brings his fellow jackasses, the you have a problem.
But on grief servers, everyone is a jerkass.
But on cracked grief servers, everyone is 20 jackasses

so why not just change hosts? Grab the map before the rental times out, and move to creeperhost like me! They've been quite good so far.

I downloaded the files and cancelled my plan.

I figured something out with my mom, so I can drop 22~ dollars a month on a server when I take out the webhosting. I was thinking xenonservers.com, as I had a 30-man server with them close to 2 years ago and it was flawless. Still, open to suggestions.

Also, a theme for the server probably needs to be picked again. I had thought this whole sci fi thing would be epic, but, you were right, it was the exact opposite plus some. But on the other hand, it's somewhat silly to have a TSP ripoff. I know I'd want it to have airships, but not really clear on anything else :[

The Xenon prices seem a bit much. I'd still recommend that you check out creeperhost; they've been great so far and are cheaper than Xenon.

Seems like creeperhost caters to stressing modpacks like FTB and Tekkit. In a shared hosting environment that's stealing CPU cycles from everyone else. And their plan descriptions are basically form letters.

The reason Xenon is so expensive is because it has great hardware. It used to be 15.00 per 1gb

Xeons run on the same architecture as the i7 line, more or less. Where they differ is in the number of processor cores (the top end have 10x2) and their ridiculously large CPU cache (20-30MB vs just 8-12MB on an i7). There's a few other things like fault tolerances, but that doesn't drive performance. A Xeon processor is meant for a workstation, doing things like heavy modeling or simulation where it has to churn through tons of data. It's not worth the money for normal applications, nor will normal applications be able to make good use of the specs.

Cache memory is really expensive (in terms of money) because it takes up a ton of real-estate on the die and needs dedicated control circuitry to operate efficiently. I assume there are other drawbacks, other than power consumption, or they wouldn't maintain two separate product lines. But I really don't really know much about modern CPU architecture.

Erm, that's the same core for both hosts. Creeperhost uses Xeon Octacores IIRC.

Xenonservers hosts their stuff on E3-1230 boxes, I can imagine having twelve cores helps a lot when servicing upwards of twenty server owners.

I was thinking of just cutting the middleman and going straight to someone like Ocity and pick up a VPS, which while basically the same thing offers a lot more flexibility as far as management goes. But, on the other hand, I'm not too certain they could handle the traffic.

I'm still not sure about Creeperhost. A general rule of thumb is to not buy from a provider that only provides that game, lest it disappear overnight ala Brohoster. They also have their prices in Euros :/

But their pricing is pretty good, and if you're happy with them that's another point in their favor.

Redstonehost looks good, too.

How are hosts normally priced? I was going to leave a dedicated server in Kansas City for our uses, so I never looked into anything else.

25$ is an average joe's server. 15 if you're a cheapskate.

The cheapest I've seen a dedi go is 70$ from Minecrafted, but operating off of my experience with them you're probably not getting what they say you are. I'd say closer to 90 for a good server, higher than that for something that can handle Futurecraft. I know of a mod for an abandoned MMO that consumes upwards of 400 monthly to keep its servers up.
