What did you hope Starmade and Space Engineers would be, exactly? They're both about as much as I expected.

Space Engies is what I wanted from FC plus some. I just wanted to build a ship and go to battle with it, and Space Engies hast that. As well as the ability to easily add mods other people have made and other cool features.

Well I didn't play SE so I can only judge it by the looks (or by the vids to be exact), in SM's case though it doesn't prove a challenge to me engineering-wise, making a perfect ship is too formulistic and building ships that just fly is too easy. In both cases they lack variety. In SM's case though the biggest probs are:
1. Its engine simply can't handle what it cooks for itself, my ships never get to be tested in respectable combat, rather in lagfests when there should have been one , and
2. it just did its mechanics entirely wrong, the core elements need to be redesigned in order for the game to have growing space and for the current gameplay to be enjoyable, its a long lecture about the failings and possible paths of improvement SM has so Ill spare you the details.

If you can't judge SE, why did you imply the converse?

Because is of poor, is of bad.
Anyway, none of those things do fill what I hoped futurecraft would've become. A giant social experiment, much like this forum, lots of humans starting from scratch, forming cultures, repeating history...

Don't tell anybody, but to this day I have a faint hope for Futurecraft, or something similar to it, to happen. Within my lifetime.

Re: The Original Forum Post
I always imagined FC as the unity of what everyone wants in spacegames.
An advanced economy setup with minor goading from the game itself to keep it funded and working (Im pretty certain we had a development idea post on a money system operated by the players). A strong faction aspect that brings together alot of people to see real space battles (Factions in general, Real expensive gates to connect them to the rest of the universe requiring some actual teamwork or complete domination of the planet to construct). A huge tech tree with many branches that gives you a huge amount of content. And amazing space battles with player designed and built ships.
So far none of these games dare touch even close to my idea of FC. Starmade has potential but would require some serious work to become anything more then a fancy ship making game, Space Engineers looks like your run of the mill space game and again, Little more then a fancy ship builder, Star Citizen just gives me an EVE online vibe and thats about it.
As for the social aspect you want Sara, Thats not really that uncommon, Any game with a large group of people form cultures and start from scratch, It might just be harder to find history since most games wipe things away without a trace.

You can always judge something, your experience with one thing only determines how accurately you judge so ultimately even if you play a game you can still make a wrong conclusion about it, or not. Instead of saying "You have no right to judge" show that my conclusion is wrong, Ill answer with TIL and we can get over it.

Admittedly I did twist your words slightly, I wasn't entirely wrong. You yourself said you can't truly judge SE, and not only that, you didn't judge it, instead only talking about Starmade.Iv121 wrote:Well I didn't play SE so I can only judge it by the looks (or by the vids to be exact),
I was curious about what your expectations for SE were and how it did not meet them. You still haven't answered.

Re: The Original Forum Post
Let me rephrase: A giant social experiment set in a permanent universe with almost unlimited freedom, people forming cultures, which in time decay and leave just faint memories, legends, and derelict ruins of megalopoleis, sitting there for months or years real-time after being forgotten, until they're found again through accident, leaving those who find it pondering about how even the greatest civilisations can fall apart through the hand of time. An infinite chaotic, untouched wilderness, to be cultivated and brought in order by humans, who with the proper ambition and aspiration become gods in their own right, and yet remain those small, helpless organisms, dependant these motes suspended in sunbeams. A horde of monkeys blessed with consciousness and reason, managing themselves and maybe even managing to spread themselves to the stars, through no help other than each other's hands and brains. Or falling into anarchy and destroying each other, and all their work with it, be they right or wrong. Human history repeating, no guiding hand at all, no purpose but to try and explore, see what's out there and satisfy one's curiosity, plain chaos that is to be tried to be put into order.Shadowcat wrote: As for the social aspect you want Sara, Thats not really that uncommon, Any game with a large group of people form cultures and start from scratch, It might just be harder to find history since most games wipe things away without a trace.
