World projects

Post by Shadowcatbot » Mon Oct 20, 2014 7:15 pm

I know we had a thread like this before but I'd like to put it up again, if the whole world got together to do something what do you think they should do?

For something simple Id say a complete as possible global database that includes DNA, fingerprints, blood type, medical records, and identification photos of every human along with countinued updates and worldwide mandatory entry for everyone new born.

For something more complex perhaps a trans-Saharan canal and canal systems to help irrigate the Saharan desert and maybe turn it into useful farmland or graze land.

Make more mosins and cosmoline. Store them for the ages. For every man, a mosin.

As for other projects, probably the complete removal of the atmosphere and hollowing of the earth, which would remove both the atmospheric and gravitational constraints on space travel.

The sahara will never be useful land , its the problem of the soil above all, not much in the way of minerals in sand nor can it sustain the roots of most plants. Even if you make it usable once the plants will quickly exhaused the minerals and you are back with useless sand. Positive Iv at your service ! Replace most of the Sahara with massive hydroponics farms. Begin placing massive fusion/fission power stations in uninhabited areas to power Africa's to-be-built infrastructure.

Heres an interesting idea for you: Magnetic ID chips

Currently these are used in pets and store a small amount of information for contacting the owner, But what if they were remade as identification chips to be implanted in say, Peoples right arm and would hold an ID code that when scanned by an appropriate scanner would access a database of profiles and bring up that person.
Such a database could include everything from DNA and fingerprints to medical data to even being used as a debit card like device (Imagine all your money being safely stored in a bank account and accessed solely by a chip implanted in your arm, try losing that!).

Whats your guys opinion on such a device? And what would be your reaction if your government came down and said everyone was required to get one along with the accompanying tests (DNA, Fingerprints, 3D face model scan, etc)?

I would see such a device as highly useful and would definitely push towards a futuristic society, Imagine police having databanks of every single citizens fingerprints, DNA, pictures of them, identification information, car license plate numbers, etc. Imagine EMT's being able to arrive on a scene and with a quick scan of a device having all important medical information on someone, Imagine being able to go into a store, purchase items, and pay by swiping your arm under a scanner and walking out. Sure, Civil rights fanatics will scream wolf but what can you do that someone wont scream about.

Don't tell anybody, but to this day I have a faint hope for Futurecraft, or something similar to it, to happen. Within my lifetime.

ID chips could be useful and pretty great, but could also be abused. If they were used by a government one could trust, I'd welcome them with open (and uncovered) arms.
Sure, some people would call it a "modern Big Brother", but the Big Brother system would also be useful as long as it was used by a government that cares for its citizens (read: any proper government)

America could care for its people, we just need someone with a heavy fist to come in, clear out these shit politicians and policies, and change the government so it's led by educated people with degrees in science stuff so they can make appropriate decisions.

In the U.S., the fist would need to be that of the Cthulhu. Your government is Messed. Up.

@Dayn Nordics, almost certainly U.K., Canada, Germany probably, Australia pre-Tony Abbott, New Zealand.
