There are a lot of immature * in my life

Post by Tau » Sun Sep 28, 2014 8:26 pm

And over the past few days, I've come to realize just how many. Most of them are people I know IRL, but an astonishing number of them are on this forum. (I won't name names, mainly because I'm not entirely sure which names to name yet.)

I'm trying to distance myself from them, but as far as this forum goes, I'm unsure of what to do. I need to take a break, but I can't just up and leave for three months - I'm basically maintaining the joint, after all.

I just thought I'd put this out there. I'm not leaving yet. I still need to think.

Define immature? Anyone can be immature, if you make the definition loose enough.

If you're sure it'd be temporary, I could probably handle the ACP for long enough for you to get your breath back.

But I haven't done anything...

Basically: Name who you have a problem with, and we'll fix it. Aren't we reasonable people?

I do believe that we are reasonable. until someone calls us names. Then I'm sure a shitstorm would brew.

I could have phrased that better.

Very rarely do I ever let loose a long stream of thought like I did a bit ago. Luna gave me permission to post this conversation with her.
Spoiler:
Never tell your password to anyone.
Tau Xi: I need to take a break, Skye.
It's Blue: meaning?
Tau Xi: I feel like all the idiots and assholes in my life are bringing me down.
Tau Xi: And those 'idiots and assholes' are 60% of the forum and 95% of my IRL friends.
Tau Xi: What the hell do I do?
It's Blue: uhh...
It's Blue: i...
It's Blue: just
It's Blue: don't interact?
Tau Xi: That'd leave me with 2 friends and 1 acquaintance.
Tau Xi: Not to mention that it would basically require me leaving the forum entirely, which isn't plausible.
It's Blue: can we continue later?
It's Blue: i have to go eat?
It's Blue: dinne
It's Blue: thing
Tau Xi: Sure.
Tau Xi: Enjoy.
It's Blue: ok
It's Blue: i'll be back
It's Blue is now Online.
It's Blue: ok
It's Blue: so what's going on with you right now?
Tau Xi: I'm talking to Solar about how to convince my parents to get me psychiatric therapy.
Tau Xi: Hypothetically.
Tau Xi: Anyway.
Tau Xi: I can't just avoid them. That would require abandoning the forum and alienating the first friends I've had since 2010.
It's Blue: in what way are they assholes?
Tau Xi: You know, I can't really explain why. I guess they just seem like assholes to me.
Tau Xi: The bigger problem is sheer... well, I'll try explaining it this way. Aside from Ivan, all of my closer friends are either completely indifferent about life, or just resigned to failure.
Tau Xi: And as for the forum, it feels like all that most of them do is bicker and whine. Hardly anything actually gets discussed. It's all just strings of in-jokes and miscellaneous junk.
Tau Xi: It gets irritating to be around people who don't want to do anything (and I mean *anything*, in the case of Solar and possibly Vinyl) but hang out.
It's Blue: well
It's Blue: one solution would to be the active one
It's Blue: try and pull them into a game
It's Blue: but then again they migh tnot be interested
It's Blue: i know vinyl likes cards agaisnt humanity
It's Blue: try and get in on that
Tau Xi: Games and stuff aren't really what I meant.
Tau Xi: What I meant was serious discussion of stuff. Not just games and fanfics and stuff, I mean deep topics.
It's Blue: well what else can you do across many miles
It's Blue: oh
It's Blue: hmm
Tau Xi: And there's the catch-22 of it - I'm just like them. I don't like the situation, but I don't care enough to try and fix anything, and that scares me.
Tau Xi: I'm afraid that I'll just sink into the same pit and resign myself to becoming a lazy lump of shit.
Tau Xi: And that's why I want to get away from them. I feel like it's the only way to save myself.
Tau Xi: Are you still there>
Tau Xi: ?
It's Blue: sorry
It's Blue: had to make sure person was alive
It's Blue: uhh
It's Blue: lemme reed
It's Blue: thing
It's Blue: s
It's Blue: you typed
It's Blue: ok
It's Blue: why aren't the people in your ham radio club doing it for you?
It's Blue: whats wrong with them?
Tau Xi: They're old, quite frankly. The youngest member is about 40 or so.
Tau Xi: Mostly Republicans, too.
It's Blue: oh
It's Blue: yeah i see how that can be an issue
Tau Xi: And the people in my anime club share that same problem of set-up-to-be-fucked-ness.
Tau Xi: Almost all of them, anyway. The only one that doesn't is a few years younger than me, and we're acquaintances at best.
It's Blue: i wish i was better at this
It's Blue: but i don't know exactly how to fix this
Tau Xi: The fact that you're trying speaks volumes about you.]
It's Blue: i can give ideas and suggestions
It's Blue: but i don't have a clear cut solution
Tau Xi: No one does.
Tau Xi: I can either burn everything and try not to fail, or just give up and let what will be, be.
It's Blue: giving up is never a good policy
It's Blue: well
It's Blue: let me rephrase that
It's Blue: giving up should never be your first option
Tau Xi: I agree.
It's Blue: I think seeking physical help through therapy or whatever is a great idea
It's Blue: hell call a suicide hot line even if you just want to talk with someone
It's Blue: also just keep seeking people out
Tau Xi: I'm still looking for a light in the darkness. If I can't, I'll just have to burn what I've already found.
It's Blue: i'm not sure if this is an issue with you (it is for my cousin) but try speaking with the oposite gender and making friends with them
It's Blue: thats all the advice i have to give
Tau Xi: You know, you're one of the only people on the forum who doesn't not care, if that makes sense.
It's Blue: who cares*
It's Blue: double negative
It's Blue: not needed
Tau Xi: Yeah.
Tau Xi: In the short list of the best people I've ever met, you're near the top.
It's Blue: i'm flattered
Tau Xi: It's the plain and simple truth.
It's Blue: you might just have a really high standard for people
Tau Xi: No. I just have a lot of low-standard people in my life.
Tau Xi: Hell, maybe my standards are high. I don't care.
Tau Xi: I just want to make something of myself.
It's Blue: alright
Tau Xi: I've got a big choice coming up soon, and I think this conversation has really helped me sort things out.
Tau Xi: For that, I can't thank you enough.
Tau Xi: One more thing. Do you mind if I post this on the forum?
Tau Xi: It
It's Blue: this whole conversation
Tau Xi: Yeah.
Tau Xi: 's very rare for me to let out a stream of thought like this.
It's Blue: let me check
It's Blue: yeah
It's Blue: sure
Tau Xi: Thanks a million.

I'm guessing I'm part of the 60%, what with jokingly calling you "butch" in the oldforum chatbox?
And if you want deep discussions, I'm sure plenty of us are open for that. I sure am. You just gotta initiate a conversation about it.
Because that's how people are. All people. When they talk with each other, it's 90% irrelevant stuff and jokes, and this won't change wherever you go. As for doing stuff, what would you like to do? Because I'm open for essentially anything that doesn't involve throwing all my money on a flight across the Atlantic.

This forum is an interesting place.

The vast majority of the people here are INTJ, one of the rarer M-B types. The group here also would probably get similar results for all other psychological tests, and we all likely have similar IQs. As near as I can tell, the member retention here is restrictive to people who are at or above a certain threshold of intelligence. These people are well adjusted for the RPs, which I can safely tell you are far more complex and subtle than most forum's. As for what this means, it means that Tau is with his own kind here, and the fact stands that if you perceive someone here as immature, Tau and likely everyone else here has been or will be as immature.

In that chat, I saw animu club. Have you not participated in the animu thread, or am I just being forgetful?

Just, like, initiate a Steam chat with me or something if you want to have a deep conversation.
If it is even remotely possible, I will.

I overreacted a bit. I didn't really mean a lot of what I said, I was just angry. The bigger problem is the fact that a good portion of my better friends are setting themselves up for failure, and I feel like I'm getting close to doing the same.

@ACH: I don't actually watch anime. I just go to the club because there are friendly people there.

If you feel you need a break from the forum, you can (AFAIK) hand ACP permissions to Jedi, ACH, myself, or anyone you feel could handle it.

If you just want things to be a tad less... childish, if that's the approproate term, here? We can probably do that. Bar maybe three people, everyone here is capable of being mature and serious should things call for it.

If you feel we are legitimately bringing you down, or causing serious problems? Leavining indefinitely is your call entirely. I think we'd all want you to stay - well, almost all - but again. Your life, your prerogative.

You're... 14, right? 15? It's normal to feel that way to other people of similar age, heck, I felt the same way when some most of my friends back then decided to start working after middle school, mainly because I went through the most extreme phases of puberty before/around age 14. They were in the middle of it, probably still are. Consider yourself lucky, you, as much as we, actually realise what could happen to you, most others don't do that at all. That gives you an advantage. You don't need to really leave. At most take a break for a week or two from the forums, but no need for more, really. Distancing yourself from toxic and contagiously foul people in real life is a good idea though. If their company has no benefits besides feeding your basic social need, then they're no good for you. Keep yourself "clean" when you can, basically. Just work on yourself. Develop a hobby, focus on school or do something with your time, play an instrument or join some club, the anime club is a nice idea but if you're not really into anime that doesn't seem too productive. Especially if the people over there are headed for "failure" even though they're nice.

As for deep conversations, the reason we don't really have them is that no one initiates them. It just never seems to be the right time. If someone just broke the ice, found a good topic, our minds' more serious and enlightened contents would just pour out like a monsoon at its height.

As for... the butch thing, man, we were just joking. Really. I apologise deeply if that actually annoyed or offended you that much. Won't happen again.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laconic_phrase Here. If we really cut out the small talk and tease here and there, we'd end up like this. Just uttering words here and there, having fun for a moment, but with long periods of silence in between. Which defeats the purpose of a place where we go to have fun company.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, stay the fuck away from drugs. Seriously.
