New PC!

Post by Archduke Daynel, PhD » Sat Sep 27, 2014 5:25 am

So I finally built my first PC!

Installing the OS took the longest time, because I did it wrong. When I finally managed to get it working, the screen resolution was stuck at 1024x768 and 1280x1024, even though I got a 1080p screen.
I went into the motherboard BIOS settings to try and fix this, and also changed the boot settings to booting from HDD first. Now it won't boot and I can't access the motherboard BIOS settings any more. I have absolutely no idea what to do and I think I'm having an emotional breakdown.

But at least I got it sorta working once, which is nice, and almost worth the $1000 I spent.

EDIT: Oh, and the motherboard input shield thingy cut my finger.

EDIT: It works again. At last! Resolution is still stuck though.

Make sure the cable is pluged into the video card (If you have one) Also get the latest drivers for everything.

What're the specs? I'm looking into getting a new PC myself.

Weeeell... If you had it boot from the HDD, and it got stuck, then you probably should've plugged the HDD out...

As Vince said, check the graphic card's cables.

Intel i7 4770K processor (inb4 "you don't need an i7")
MSI GTX 770 TwinFrozR graphics card
Corsair Vengeance 2x 4GB RAM sticks
MSI Z87-G45 motherboard
Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD
Corsair CX 750M power supply

Also, it now appears that it's not using the graphics card, even though I plugged it in properly and everything. That would explain a lot.

Got the resolution working and I don't need the adapter thingy any more. Still doesn't seem to use the graphics card, though.

Like I said make sure the plug from the monitor is plugged into the graphics card and not the motherboard.

Yeah that's how I did it in the beginning, when I do it still doesn't recognize the graphics card and it gives me low resolutions and requires me to use this adapter thingy, which is also required for the other desktop in the house.

~Sometimes you need a little help from google, oh oh oh~

As in googling it and not asking us who will probably end up just telling you to duck tape it.

I've been googling stuff at 2 kbps all day, shadow.

Also, turns out a CD I overlooked might contain the drivers I need. Sorry for wasting your time, guys.
EDIT: However, I don't have a usable optical drive for the computer. So I'll just have to wait a couple days/weeks/months/years more.

I just got a new comp recently. Asus with i7 and Nvidia 750. The cooling fan has the power of a small airplane.

"i7" says very little about actual computing power, except it being quadcore.

Sounds pretty good, I had an ASUS it broke though. The placement of the power cord next to the fan results in the metal there warping and the plastic fucking up. An since the power port is mounted on the motherboard. Yeah.
