Re: Cold Fusion
Looks good Julo.
I'm going to add the ships then decide on your starting positions and contracts, then we'll set off.

Re: Cold Fusion
I want to join, too!
Name: Ivan Kintobor
Ship Name: ERS Glawischnig
Ship Description:
Allegiance: ER
Personality: Generally friendly, but easy to get angry. Prefers to spend much of his free time alone. He is very popular among his crew as he prefers to not take the command structure as tightly as generally common, even accepting ideas on how to solve problems from the lowest ranking members while doing his job with contagious enthusiasm.
Backstory: Growing up in the alpine regions of central Europe, he discovered his talent for tactics and strategy in his teen years and signed up for the ER star navy's military acedemy. After graduating, he started climbing the ranks, eventually taking command over a corvette and later a frigate. Rumors are he is supposed to be promoted to Captain and given command of a cruiser within the next year.
Overview: He is very determined about achieving his mission goals. However, he sees ethics as very important and, upon given an order that goes against the ER's ethics regulations, often skip the chain of command and report the incident directly to high command. This has made him unpopular with some admirals, but made him pretty well-known among the high command, which was reaponsible for many of his promotions. He has also repetedly stated that he "would propably still use fusion warheads and similar weapons" in times of war, but he has no tolerance for the military doing unethical things when they are not neccessary, a policy shared with a majority of the high command.
Misc: He is currently on a mission to log traffic around Saturn, providing data to Saturn's civilian flight control center, checking the rings for illegal mining and checking ships for contraband upon request.

Re: Cold Fusion
Just realized something. Shadow, there are no shields whatsoever. I'm removing that from your ship. Only magnetic shields, and they only stop space radiation and micro-meteorites.
Julo accepted.
Ivan, cutting your missile tubes down to 8, unless you meant external missile racks. Tubes are fast loading but take up a lot of space. Racks hold a LOT more missiles, but load very slowly or not at all, and are external.
There isn't a visible plot, yet! But I will be having news broadcasts of events going on through the solar system. I am adding one more tech, based on the orbital accelerators; it can send signals through the network at a greater speed than normal, about twice as fast. Reduces transmission delays.
So we start. Here's the starting positions;
Alternis (Error) is on a contract to locate Haley Firiosa, a fugitive from the UAD accused of selling confidential information to the ESU, somewhere in the Kuiper belt. Ship is presumed to be a NRD Watchtower class, relatively small and designed with stealth measures in mind (camouflage, heatsinks, minimal radiation emission).
Edmund (Daynel) is delivering a shipment of illegal AI's (illegal because they are stripped of all safeguards preventing them from getting out of control) to the Oceanic pirate organization (you decide on a name). Current location is Jupiter, headed to Venus.
Julias (Middie) is reporting to Mimas from Saturn orbit. Order to report is from apparent insubordination.
Linaeus (Vinyl) is delivering critical research material from Earth to a Titan research station.
Nyxia (CvN) is delivering several cold fusion reactor cores to Mercury from Luna.
Keith (Julo) is tracking an oddly-shaped asteroid in the Kuiper Belt, as it has potential for a helium probe. Sensor data on the asteroid is very spotty, and it has not yet entered visual range.
Tajer (Shadow) is assigned to deliver a full load of titanium armor plates to a station under construction in the Asteroid Belt from Io.
Ivan is doing Saturn traffic control, making sure the rings are untouched.

Re: Cold Fusion
Yep.
Oh, need to add; The Asteroid Belt isn't one gate. It's 6 (because it's a belt). Because i'm generous, no extra travel time in the belt.
Same with the Kuiper belt, 6 gates.

Re: Cold Fusion
Alternis floated into Memory's cockpit, glancing over the scanners again. To the outside observer, he was searching for asteroids or rocks, a simple survey mission. To those who knew him, he was hunting.
He parked himself in the seat, strapping in. Checking the controls, he went over the logs.
No contact, no contact... rock... no contact... ah-ha. Gotcha. he checked the log again, and smiled slowly; a brief burst of heat, as one might see from an RCS system on station-keeping.
Looking at the active sensors, he saw nothing in the indicated spot. Passive sensors... there.
Check your heatsinks next time, love.
>>LASER COMM LINK ONLINE
>>Be advised UADS Proteus target located
>>Target painter available upon your arrival
>>Target is 16,550km range from gate 3 bearing 043.6 declination 003.5
>>Standing by
Alternis sat back and grinned. Four minutes for the laser to relay the message, thirty minutes for the UAD frigate to arrive... then ten minutes until another payday, and another bloody traitor captured.
Life was good.

Re: Cold Fusion
>>Laser Communications established
-Acknowledged Memory.
-Intelligence suggests the target is operating out of the Kuiper Belt.
-Tail the target to their destination.
-UAD frigate Alternate Corruption is on standby, 10 minutes away.
-Laser beam for support if operation is compromised.
The target continued drifting through the belt.

Re: Cold Fusion
>>Wilco
Alternis cut active sensors, and moved off; heading, obtensibly, towards the gate.
Swining the ship into position behind a rock, he brought it to a halt and launched a small passive scan-probe. It found and locked onto the stealth ship; now, he would wait until it attached itself to a rock, ship, or base and go from there.

Re: Cold Fusion
"Thrusters at 50%, we are approaching object 704, it seems, that we have a 152mm BL10 crust, with an unidentified amount of Helium-3 inside of it. The five scientists think, that it is infused with interstellar radiation. Our sensors are still not able to get a full spectrum scan of the asteroid. Over and out.“
"Captain?“
"Yes, Raj (sensor operator)?"
"We have visual contact to the asteroid, should I show it on the main screen?"
"Of course."
The picture of the asteroid was a bit distorted, but it still showed it's weird shape, even worse, now, that the asteroid was bigger, it almost looked unnatural.
"Mr. Lota (scientist)? Can you learn anything from these pictures?"
"Not really, I can tell you, that the asteroid is not made out of ice, maybe stone, like a comet."
"Hm, maybe it's a comet, which passed the sun and is therefore so smooth."
As Keith said this, the asteroid turned it's backside towards the cameras. And to the surprise of the captain and everybody on the bridge, it looked like a face.
"Mr. Lota, do you have an explanation for this?"
"Negative, Captain, but maybe it's an illusion, you know, maybe our brains just think it looks like a face."
"That might be a possibility. Mr. Raj, take a 3D sensor shot, and send it to the data centre of Pluto, maybe they know something about it."
>>Message to Pluto colony HQ
-We have found a face-like asteroid, which defies a full sensor scan.
-Request of an analysis of the 3D photograph.
-Compare it to your data, maybe you find a report of a blown up statue or stuff like that.
>>End of line

Re: Cold Fusion
"Hey whe- oh go- where's Linny off to now?"
Linnaeus could hear the disgruntled crew member through the deck plates as he lay on his red sofa in the storage compartment. The hatch leading up opened, the ladder dropping down, and on it climbed the 'officer'.
"What have I told you about leaving the bridge!"
"It's fine, we're nowhere near the gate."
"We're a minute out."
"Oh... well then... see you on the bridge, Mr. Williams."
The aged vipar approached the Jupiter gate, shortly to it, their credentials cleared and the machine was ready to launch them the vast distance.

Re: Cold Fusion
Name: Dmitri Yanukovitch(Дмитрий Янукович)
Ship Name (If you have a ship; optional. No really. You don't have to have a ship.): Стрела(Strela)
Ship Description (Post specs of ship, manufacturer, etc. Optional; you don't have to have a ship, or I can choose one for you.)
Occupation (can be anything): Small goods trader, courier, mercenary, and prospector
Allegiance (What power are you a part of?): None, but has done work for the ER in the past.
Personality: Calm, relaxed. Very difficult to agitate or anger.
Backstory (What have you been doing with your life?): From a small village a hundred miles north of the ruins of Novosibirsk, Dmitri had no prospects in life beyond rural poverty. This changed(when the fire nation attacked) when he was given the opportunity to escape to the ER by a group of scientists who were studying his village for the biological and social aftereffects of the fusion bombs and collapse of society. He was sent to a school in Warsaw, and then finished with a degree in astrophysics from the University of Bath. Dmitri was granted a ship by Strict Forme(still keking) as a test pilot, and after the development period was allowed to keep the ship.
Overview (General stuff): Soviet man break your puny ships. He operates the Стрела with only his dog, Лайка(Laika), and as such doesn't have to put up with any crewmember bullshit or mutiny. Coming from Siberian turnip farm village, he is frugal with his rubles and only eat 2 meals a day. He has a Mosin Nagant in his Command Room and an Ushanka warms his head; he quite obviously speaks very little English, so any attempt to communicate under comms without the use of a translator will result in poor broken English or a man shouting in Russian.
Misc (Anything else?): He has a small hydroponics unit in a little 2 meter by 2 meter add-on on his ship.
Theme Music/Picture (optional):
