Randall walked down the long hall, a scientist in a stereotypical lab coat beside him. He was wearing a black suit, neatly folded and arranged extremely professionally. The corridor they were going down was obviously still under construction; panels were not in position, wiring was exposed, materials were everywhere. The final calibrations for the Torus piece. Robots drifted around, guided by the occasional worker, finalizing the construction and making sure everything worked properly. The corridor slowly curved; they were headed towards the center of the growing piece. Once completed, the Antioch Torus would be nearly 40,000 km in length, so large that it requires it's own warp drive system just to ferry people around. It would take a long time to build.
"You told me you had a breakthrough on the Strigiforme Station?" Randall asked.
"Yes," replied the scientist. He raised his arm and began tapping at the datapad grafted onto it. "As before, we were able to reproduce the energy Stauros uses consistently in lab conditions. We've named it Stauros Radiation. We created a lab emitter, rather large, that reproduced the Stauros effect. Upon activating it, however, we encountered issues."
"What kind of issues?"
"The emitter scrambled it's own computer systems until we switched to primitive silicon based ones."
"So the lab emitter, and therefore, Stauros, passively emit this energy?"
"Along with other radiation, yes."
"And how unique in the spectrum is this radiation?"
"It exists nowhere else in the universe. Well, it may, but we've never found it."
"So you're saying that we could look for this passive energy and find the station?"
"Not quite. The passive radiation emitted, even by a planet sized weapon, would be too faint to detect with any equipment from anywhere outside of Strigiforme space."
"Then why are you informing-"
"HOWEVER," the scientist interrupted, "We do not believe Stauros station is passively emitting radiation all the time. We believe that the Strigiforme are keeping it under a super-shield constantly to avoid detection. And as we know, the Stauros shot is stopped by a super-shield."
"The point you're getting at?"
"By being under a super-shield, Stauros radiation will continuously build up inside the shield. Eventually, it will begin to degrade everything it touches; not just quantum computers. So Stauros must lower it's shield periodically to purge itself of radiation build-up."
"And in that time, could we detect it?"
"Possibly. We don't know how long the shield must go down to purge the planet-sized construct of radiation. Maybe minutes, maybe seconds."
"But you're saying there's a chance."
"Yes. While purging itself, it will be illuminated very faintly, but bright enough that we may be able to detect it. But it's a long shot." Randall sighed.
"See if you can discover it's location. Go now." The scientist saluted and turned into a different room, while Randall kept going forward. One of his advisers was waiting ahead; as Randall walked by, he joined him.
"I have the full report on the Antioch Torus, sir," he said.
"Relay it," Randall replied.
"The Antioch torus, as you know, is composed of eight sections, each five thousand kilometers in length approximately."
"I know the basic specifications, yes."
"In the center of each section is a weapon emitter, a massive energy weapon capable of firing in almost any direction."
"Almost?"
"It can't hit itself or the planet." They passed a construction drone, placing panels on the wall.
"What is this weapon, exactly?"
"It utilizes the Novan-made Hyperspace Array in a slightly different manner. Energy from Antioch Core is extremely compressed and concentrated into a very tight coherent beam, about 5 meters in diameter. Using an the Hyperspace Array fitted onto the end of the weapon, it sends this beam through hyperspace to any target in it's field of view of our choosing. It is, technically, a highly modified Fusion Coil Splicer; by up-scaling it and changing the component configuration, we have eliminated all of the drawbacks while simultaneously increasing it's power."
"How powerful is this beam?"
"We believe it can completely overload a Strigiforme super-shield in under 3 hours using all of the energy from Antioch Core." Randall thought for a second.
"And the Torus? How are we powering this?"
"Antioch Core will connect to the Torus using 8 energy projectors, connecting to each section. All energy produced will be transmitted to the station."
"And I assume it's covered in defensive guns?"
"Absolutely. It will be the most heavily defended area in the AUF. And before you ask, there will be no quantum computers aboard the station. All silicon based. The only quantum computers are in Antioch Core, and it's surrounded by thousands of kilometers of rock. Stauros Radiation can't reach it."
"I find everything to my standards, then." Randall stopped next to a door. "Continue the project then, and utilize what resources you must. Hexalan offered to help us construct it, and I believe you should accept it. The choice is yours."
"You told me you had a breakthrough on the Strigiforme Station?" Randall asked.

Re: Where we Left Off[RP THREADNOUGHT]
Darkstar Corporation,as a competitor, wishes to build components for the Torus as well. This would be a good demonstration of product quality, reliability and to have more share of the market for this kind of project.

A number of ships, both under repair and active, have been pulled into spacedock to be refit with ER Fusion lances.

I call BS. Stauros radiation devices have to be massive; no miniaturization, it's too OP against everyone else. Also, it's top seecret, and you have never even been hit by the Stauros, and it has only been fired twice. Even when it was fired, it wiped the computer systems of those which could observe it.

Re: Where we Left Off[RP THREADNOUGHT]
ACH, they managed to remotely view and analyze the Stauros energy signature. Stauros was lit up like a supernova when it fired, and AUF saw it and analyzed it, and they learned it's firing trajectory. As soon as they detected it, they dropped a probe in the system hit, analyzed the energy left behind, and left. Initially, they were able to produce a small effect by bombarding Yttrium particles with heavy radiation, but then built an emitter (About the size of a large house, basically a scaled down Stauros) that reproduced the radiation, but a very minor amount. It literally cannot be weaponized unless it is planet sized; too little radiation, it can't be projected through realspace in any reliable manner, and doing it through subspace only works with the super shield. It's only useful as a laboratory gizmo.
Also, I already replicated the energy itself 15 pages ago.

But Fen, the other energy types can only go the speed of light. You wouldn't detect them for years, as this things is deep in the Strigiforme Empire.

While I get that, yes, the Stauros radiation emitted during firing, even IF I can't see the other radiation yet, would be like a beacon, especially considering it moves at FTL speeds.
Consider this; the black hole entering the Orion Confederation's home star was detected instantly. What's to say I can't detect your superweapon when it fires?

I'm assuming you heard all the hyperspace distress signals screaming,

Detecting that black hole was like seeing a candle in front of a searchlight. And it was seen EVEN BEFORE it entered. ACH, I don't know what your superiority complex with "hurr durr own superweapon is unstoppable, cannot be replicated, undetectable" but it needs to stop.

Re: Where we Left Off[RP THREADNOUGHT]
Ok, obviously you know what it is. You have some energy readings from Novan ships and some leftover radiation. This is something, but not a lot to go on. It's like trying to replicate a nuke from Geiger counter readings and a crater; you know the after affects, you have some suspicions, but you can't just pull one out your ass. These things take time to research. If you want to keep it, fine. Just think it through in the future

Re: Where we Left Off[RP THREADNOUGHT]
Basically, we know the energy the weapon was using and it's effects. Instead of a geiger counter and a nuke, it's like seeing the nuke in action. From that, we knew the owls used Yttrium a lot and it likely was essential for it's function, and we blundered around until we reproduced the effect.

Draco system is being heavily fortified with military assets like planetary defenses, garrisons, training of colonial militias and ships of old,but very modular and fast construction. The first shipyard is functioning, giving the capability of manufature ships on a small scale!
