OOJG: 100% because I'm gettin impatient and it's somewhat a plot thing.

Upon completion of the One Way Jump Gate Jade scraps her military ships and connects the reactors to it providing it just enough power to start it up and hold the connection for about an hour. Upon arrival at the end of the jump gate jade sends an order for the reactors to go into a meltdown, destroying the gate. Both the activation and destruction of the gate caused massive ripples in spacetime and subspace. Immediate scans of the area show 8 planets that are inhabitable in 7 systems yet no life whatsoever exists.

@ACH Novus has been continually fortified / improved upon its fortifications for five hundred years straight, and FleetCom bunkers are intended to survive subspace weapons.

So, you haven't fried a few AIs, deal with it.

500=/=similar to >50,000

Anyways, the thing is that the Stauros is the big trump card here. The Strigiforme don't actually want to fight the Novans, they just know that the Novans are too goody goody to stand by and watch the MQR be slaughtered. Also, they're tick about that other war. The Strigiforme forces are significantly weaker than the Novans, and the Stauros is the only real way to beat them. Additionally, wouldn't the AI have to transmit to the surface somehow? Unless you do a complete seal on them, which accomplishes nothing, or you have the wire that transmits it made of some conductive anti radiation material, I don't see how.

Research: Tests on Opal" are done. The results are the following.

[meta] Energy is easily generated by the new fold quartz generator, codename: Opal. It cannot output a big supply of energy by default to prevent overload, but the energy supply is still very big. The reactor is not so cheap, and is expected to be used only on heavy cruisers and up. Tests were made to see if the energy output is good enough to supply at least 5 layers of shielding in the Centurion system and susceeded, with the support of other powerplants, the shield can go as far as 7. [/meta]

New research: Study is going on phase-lane estabiliazation. While ships can jump anywhere, the creation of "phase lanes" using warpgates is a profitable and secure way to create trade routes, saving money on the deployment of fleets to patrol space.

Military: Ghost and Spectre teams are passing by a small reformulation. They are being trained again for a period of 2 months to mantain skills sharp, and the training with the new standard issue anti-psi and computer equipment.

OOC: Error, let me give you a run down on how Stauros works.

Destroying quantum computers using a projected energy weapon is possible, but requires large amounts of energy to generate the necessary fluctutions. Basically, the weapon causes large quantum fluctuations that are specifically designed to interact with the quantum logic that allows the computers to run, causing Quantum de-Coherence. Quantum de-coherence is thermodynamically irreversible. Technically, it isn't destroying the computer itself, merely making it's entire logic program nonfunctional. In today's computer, it would be similar to scrambling the programming of the CPU.

The effect CAN be reversed by completely reconstructing the quantum computer by taking it's component pieces apart, reconfiguring them properly to factory default settings, and replacing them. For example, if logic circuit 1 normally operates in positions A and B, Stauros forces it to go to position C, which cannot be reversed by the computer to position A or B. However, by removing the logic circuit from the system and resetting it, it moves to position D, which can then be moved back into position A once placed back in the computer.

A similar effect does happen with Silicon based computing. The quantum effects cause the system to scramble and fail to function. HOWEVER, silicon computing does not rely on potentially-unstable quantum quirks and effects, and this, is not permanently affected. It merely requires a system reboot or reset to function properly again.

Now, as for the delivery; I am adding a caveat here. It's not negated by certain types of shielding (except Strigiforme super-shield)- it's negated by NO shielding whatsoever. How Stauros works is by sending this quantum wave through subspace or something. It interacts with shielding systems in this transit mode. Smaller shield systems, on most ships, won't see any issues really. Larger ones, on super-dreadnoughts or planetary shields, see a spike in energy as it passes but no real damaging effects. It only really interacts with an EXTREMELY powerful shield; in this case, the Strigiforme Super Shield.

Upon striking a sufficiently powerful shield, the energy will revert back to realspace and envelop the shield bubble before radiating out in all directions, sort of like a bomb. Now in realspace, the quantum energy will spread out and interacts strongly with all shields. Shields in this case concentrate the quantum effects into the ship, vastly multiplying their effect. Now, without shields, the effects aren't concentrated, so the ship won't receive as much damage. It will still be affected however, based on how close it is to the super-shield. The closer it is, the more scrambled the computers become.

By lowering shields and being far enough away, even if you are in blast range of the Stauros shot, it won't kill any computer systems; it won't have enough energy to do so. But having any shield generator on will concentrate the energy and spell a death sentence to your computers if you are in blast range, regardless of distance.

But you don't know this.

The main AUF mining corporation, Nvidium Corp, has announced an extensive trading and cooperation pact with a Hexalan corporation. Nvidium will be sending Hexalan significant amounts of raw material from many of it's excavation operations in order to assist with the construction of Hexalan hardware. In exchange, it will be receiving a portion of the profits and yields of this hardware.

The Antioch United Federation's Nvidium Corporation, its main source of mining-related solutions, has recently made a deal with our own Valin Shipyards. In exchange for providing the Expanses with materials, which our Board plead that we need so desperately, for an amount of profits and yields of the hardware Valin and in extension Hexalan, produces. And now to Jaerry with the weather.

"We need to make a decision about this. So I ask you all again: should we assist the novans?"
The question was followed by a wave of person-to-person mumbling and whispering amongst the very highest of politicians and officials in the Zuguthian governmental system. After a brief moment, grand admiral Toma took the word.
"The strigiforme have an advantage over us in numbers. A great one. In fact, more or less every single faction in the galaxy does. But our ships are much more advanced than theirs, are they not? And the novans, they have very advanced ships and good numbers. Together, I would believe that the Novan and the Zuguthian fleets could take on any faction in this galaxy.
And as you might remember, we have an alliance with the Novan Commonwealth. Even though the Solari Stratocracy is no longer with us, the Tri-Faction Alliance, while perhaps in need of another name, still stands."

The great room was silent, but after what seemed like an eternity, someone took the word.
"Like admiral Toma said, if we assist the novans we should be able to fend away the threat. But the strigiforme are strong, and our numbers are few. My suggestion is we hold a vote. The public should have a say in this."

Absolutely no life has been discovered in the ~10% of Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte. Jade is extremely confused as several hundred planets exist with the perfect conditions for life yet none exists. Deciding it's not important at the moment Jade moves on to increasing her infrastructure now that she is too far away to be bothered by the ongoing conflicts in the milky way.

"But do we help the MQR, it should be a no brainer as last time I checked we are a GSI member and we are the only one who has anything on the Strigiforme's numbers and we would stand a chance against them-"
"You're forgetting we have no way of cracking open their shields yet, if we entered open conflict with them they'd do to us they did to the MQR and Novans. The only reason we aren't already getting swamped in yttrium is they don't expect us to help them. I advise we keep the heat off of us and the AUF until the project is done, which my team is telling me could be done by next month with the kind of tech the Federation has at its disposal."
"So what are you proposing, that we stand by as they get slaughtered?!"
"I'm proposing we use the time they're buying us to save whatever's left."

OOC: ACH, is the barrage cannon actually protected by a super-shield?

BIC: The HARMONY has fired once again, this time upon the Strigiforme fleet that is currently having a stare-off with the fleet at Equestria. It has been specifically calibrated to minly affect psionics, knocking out a considerable number of Ryytil across the fleet for a long period of time, forcing the Strigiforme to either delay their attack even longer or go into battle with significantly reduced psionic shielding.

OOC: @Fen Fine, but considering scrambling an AI is (an analogy for you) essentially knocking a person out, taking a blender tot heir brain,t hen later taking said soup out and putting a new one in, you can understand I'm a tad annoyed he killed ~40 people with an essentially unstoppable weapon.

And bear in mind the planetary bunkers use natural and physical shielding; that, and they're intended to survive, as I said, subspace weapons, so Stauros is damaging but not lethal. You said yourself it's a subspace weapon.

BIC//

Planetary militias and ground-forces have begun making coordinates guerilla strikes on Strigifroem-"held" worlds in the Commonwealth. Targeting troop transports, armoured vehicles, and dropships, they are coordinating their efforts via the CSN hyperpulse network and by hijacking several Strigiforme transmitters; these forces aren't able to take on the owls head-on, but their hit-and-fade strategy has held so far.

Over Novus, a total of 45 CSN warships and 60 system defense corvettes have gathered, awaiting the Strigiforme's next move;[meta] the hyperspace missile array has been loaded with 5 nuclear warheads and 1 tachyon-subspace warhead. It has fired on the location of the Barrage Cannon (provided by the MQR in a shared-intel link; the MQR has been sent the *probable* location of Stauros).

Additionally, two Prowlers have left Cuuyth and have departed for the suspected location of Stauros.[/meta]

OOC: Wat error, Your mad he killed ~40 digital people with a super weapon, but yet fleet battles probably mow through 40+ people per moderate size ship and your fine? Wat.

OOC: Error, the Stauros shoots through subspace, but its actual effect has nothign to do with subspace. It's a quantum thing, which, AFAIK, goes directly through matter without any ifluance by it.
Also 45 total warships is not much, even counting in that Novus generally overengineers their ships and with the system defense corvettes added. It's a good number for one fleet in your case, but not something that is supposed to be the bulk of your entire navy.
And I agree with Shadow here. Also the weapon is not unstoppable, but we lack the technical information to stop/weaken it, which is a different thing and totally legit, considering ACH has been building on it essentially since page 1.
