I'm either really bad at XCOM all of a sudden, or Long War is exactly what I've been looking for.
Already lost 5 rookies in the first 2 missions. I think I'll give mission summaries because I think some of them are quite frankly funny.

Operation: STONE RAIN
Spoiler:
6 Sectoids vs 6 Rookies
XCOM Victory
Failed to capture any meld.
Managed to only have 1 death, the rest had only critical injuries.
Promotions: A medic, a scout, and a heavy weapons.

Operatives outflanked the enemy, slaughtering them.
Operation: SHATTERED JUSTICE
Spoiler:
9 Sectoids vs 6 Rookies
XCOM Victory
Captured 1/3 meld.
5 deaths, 1 critically injured.
Promotions: An infantryman.

Operatives fell prey to pre-promotion attachment, resulting in the deaths of 3 named redshirts. Enemy was too entrenched, operatives had to make do with <20% hit chances.
In a daring attempt to flush out the remaining 3 enemies, operatives Chris Hall and My Angus Burns managed to infiltrate the building, using operative Wendy's Donalds to bait the sectroids' overwatch. After killing 1 sectoid, Hall and Burns were caught out of position by a sectoid leader who promptly murdered them. Operatives Shah and Donalds moved in to complete the mission. Shah entered the building through Hall's route, Donalds from the side, however the sectoid leader was waiting there but narrowly missed Donalds. Donalds performed a daring flank on the leader, but missed with a 91% hit chance, leading to her death. Shah made quick work of the two sectoids inside, but panicked from the death of operative Agent Malik who was fatally injured (and untreated due to Command's mistake in not brining any medkits) and fled. This panic did lure the leader to a flanking position, but when Shah though she was done for, the leader missed. Taking this chance, she changed position and finished him off with a 100% hit chance. As a reward for this ruthless slaughter of the enemy, Shah was made an infantryman, renamed to Sameen Shaw, and has been promised to be given the first applicable medal.
EDIT:

Operation: SHATTERED CRONE
Spoiler:
6 Sectoids and 3 Drones vs 3 Specialists and 3 Rookies
XCOM Victory
Captured 2/3 meld.
1 death, rest had minor wounds.
Promotions: An infantryman and a heavy weapons.

Operatives Tall Dark Handsome, Creepy Pedo, and James Vega accompanied 3 rookies in order to gain additional veterans with minimal risk to the trainees. After ambushing 3 sectoids, sustaining no damage, were themselves ambushed by a pack of drones arriving from the opposite side of their cover. Unable to simply switch the facing side due to the 3 other sectoids they were facing, the operatives had to retreat behind several large liquid storage tanks. During the retreat, operative Judy Fisher was gunned down by a drone. Operatives James Vega and Creepy Pedo took out 2 of the drones and held their flanked position in order to draw out the remaining drone, meanwhile operative Tall Dark Handsome, Torres, and Dekker held off the sectoids until Creepy Pedo managed to move to their front, taking out 2 sectoids with a rocket, leaving James Vega to take out the drone. As operative Torres mopped up the last sectoid, Vega scored a hit on the drone as it attempted an approach, taking it out. Torres was made a heavy weapons and named Toroidal Aerospike. Dekker became a medic and was named Eva *.

Ok guys, scratch the videos completely.

Reason? I don't have the bandwidth to upload videos to youtube at all. I did a test run, a 7 minute video ended up being 5 gigabytes worth of data. I'm going to assume a regular XCOM mission is about 20 minutes, which is about 15 gigabytes. At my upload speed of 100 kb/s, that's nearly 2 day's worth of straight uploading.

Unless I can get video compression. And video editing.

Help pl0x?

If you don't mind search via trial and error, you can look through free video editing software.
If you want to drop some cash, you can buy some video editing software.
If you want you can get Adobe Premiere CS2 if you want to get an Adobe account.

Apparently blender has video editing and exporting but it's TERRIFYING and IDK what i'm doing

In order to have a slightly-reasonable upload time (9 hours is my LIMIT) I need to get all videos down to approx. 3 GB or less.

EDIT: Blender wiki is also completely inaccessible to me, so I can't get any help.

Probably because I'm on Normal I've only had one death so far (Japanese rookie got on the wrong end of 4 EXALT groupies).

I find ii amusing that EXALT just go full zerg - I killed 16 of them in exchange for one of my soldiers (and the covert operative got a kill on 1 HP left, good on him).

Also, Fen, you sniper boy can't hit shit. He has decent aim, but somehow misses anything under 60% to hit and is iffy above it.

Fortunately, my MEC(s) are both either lucky or 1337, as my leading MEC got 7 EXALT kills singlehandedly. Dat flamethrower tho.

EDIT: Fenway get better, and is now a pretty badass shot. His killcount also includes, like, 4 Chryssalids.

Solution found: Record at 30 FPS at 480p. It's not HD, but it makes the file-sizes manageable (Same length recording is under 1 GB)

Or I can go full 720p at 30fps. A 16 minute video is just under 3 GB, uncompressed and unedited (from blender of course). The 480p's quality isn't too bad if you don't watch it full screen, while the 720 is a bit better but has flaws too.

It's your decision guys.

Fen, pls get me in.
I don't care what I look like, but make me speak German pls.

I am still working on the campaign I started back when this thread was originally running.
Mostly because I hadn't played a while unitl recently.
Should I wait for a battlehsip to pop up so I can get better rockets or just attack the temple ship right away?

VirtualDub with the XVid codec works miracles on file size.

... holy shit. Thank you Tiel.

Just started compressing, it's estimating a file size of 600 mb for a 16 minute long 720p video, which was 3 gb before.

Thank you Tiel!

Finished compression, 560 mb with little quality loss (Barring what I had before)

I'd upload my hilarious failure to YT but a.) I'm not talking in it and b.) it's a few seconds over YT's 15 minute limit. And I don't have a cell phone I can use to increase it. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Had my first no death mission.
And 2 of them were rookies.
All but 1 specialist got promoted.

I've decided to fuck it and go for Long War, because in impossible, the AI cheats and it's pretty unfair.

I had a Sectoid hit a soldier hunkered down in full cover from across the map, critical hit, killing soldier instantly. It's stupid.
