The Strigiforme, now firmly irked by the psionic shield, decided to go another route.
First, they called up the Minister of the Udaloy Federal Republic, a nation that was under threat of becoming a Strigiforme orbital state. They ordered him to pay some mercenaries to buy their own pirates to carry some cargo to Menya, then proceed to a rendezvous location on the Strigiforme border. The pirates they paid off were ordered to attack the forces there, and dump all the canisters marked with a black stripe overboard, while keeping the red ones.
The Minister was then deposed and killed by a People's Revolution, which immediately was taken under the Strigiforme's wing. The mercenaries the Minister hired rendezvoused in the system, and were promptly massacred by a large Strigiforme border patrol. The pirates steamed towards Menya, a force 20 ships strong, each carrying a set of 10 black marked canisters and 20 red ones, the black being filled with supplies and covered with a stealth ablative that would make them appear to be debris, preprogrammed to maneuver slowly to land near friendly targets, the red being full of high explosive designed to kill everyone onboard. No witnesses.

The recent psionic pulse having raised suspicion, the already-nearby destroyer Valiant, and its accompanying frigates Valkyrie and MacArthur, have been ordered to the system, expected to arrive within the hour.

HXESV 07-02000 Eidetic Slaughter at Morn, HXESV 07-00200Gabrulius' Corsair, HXESV 07-00300 Qwib-Qwib, HXESV 07-00500 Evening Picketnic, and HXESV 07-00600 Glamori have arrived at Menya. The four Campaigns will maintain a perimeter until provided coordinates from Zuguthian commanders, the heavy carrier is prepared to deploy on demand but until then will establish fighter patrols with its own as well as whatever are aboard the Campaigns.

No more ships kids; you don't expect any naval engagement anyways; if anything, it should be troopships.
Btw if one of you wants to write it; the pirates pop in near the planet, drop the black containers, then explode. The black containers drift, undetected with their ablative and very small internal gyroscope that slowly steers them to predetermined locations. No pirates survive, because this was tonnes and tonnes of HE in their hull

Re: Where we Left Off
The collected fleet sat in space, awaiting the command to descend and unload their troops, for their dropships and pods to slam through the atmosphere and wipe the planet clean of cultists.
Amongst all this, Commander Gaetiea stood in the Cavalier's CIC, watching the DRADIS board and sipping a cup of coffee.
With a beep, several contacts appeared. Turning to his tac-officer, Gaetiea barely raised an eyebrow before the woman turned to look at him.
"Several new contact, no naval IFF. Visuals indicate pirates."
Gaetiea turned back to the DRADIS. "Arm weapons, shields up. Bring us about, zero-six-two declination zero-zero-five. Forward batteries commence firing as soon as they bear. Forward flak, selective fire. Don't hit any of those friendlies."
The cruiser rolled and came about, facing the pirate vessels as the latter turned to engage. Throwing up a flak barrier, the Novan vessel began firing, slinging it's high-velocity payloads across space.
The pirates, hardly equipped for this, barely had time to consider rereat before the shells hit, punching easily through their shields and the hulls within. Tearing through the vessels, several rounds came into contact with the explosives stored in the cargo bays, touching them off.
Gaetiea stared in amazement as DRADIS registered several of the ships exploding, the rest going up or on fire. Shaking his head, he turned to the gunnery officer.
"Good shooting. All batteries to standby."
The officer nodded, then frowned. "Commander... we weren't firing HE. Something went off over there, sir."
"Detailed scan of the area. IR, DRADIS, visual, whatever."
"Lotta hot contacts. Several cooler. A number of wrecks and a few ejected cargo containers... whatever they were carrying, sir, it was meant to go boom."
"At least it didn't get to the surface. Stand down to ready alert. Condition bravo."

Re: Where we Left Off
Krtiil has accepted the position as Hierarch, given that refusal meant expulsion from the Hierarchy. He is expected to make a public address in approximately 14 hours.
Senior Security L. Jahgrin presided today over the trial of the Imperator. After a lengthy trial, the Imperator has been sentenced to provide full-scale relief support to all affected NeoRoman worlds. He is guarded by a full platoon of armored troops at all times, as well as a small advanced task force.
The security council today has authorized the deployment of two additional experimental sensor ships, as well as several destroyers, to the Menya system. The fleet will not be partaking in any combat, but will provide logistical support to the fleets partaking in the actions below. The sensor ships are part of the new Watchtower class, which is designed to detect, sense, and log every object in a solar system through a combination of gravitational sensing, EM signatures, subspace disturbances, dark matter imaging, Psionic mapping, and Tachyon sensing. This will be the first field test of the Tachyon Sensor system, an experimental system utilizing FTL particles. Their full capabilities are not known. These ships are extremely expensive and only 5 are expected to be operational at any given time. The fleet arrived in Menya approximately one standard hour ago.
-Aboard HXESV 07-02000 Eidetic Slaughter at Morn-
>//BEGIN SIGNAL UPLINK...
-Target: N.R.S Fleet-
>//UPLOADING SENSOR FEED...
-Tachyon Uplink established-
-Aboard Third Battle Fleet experimental sensor ship Heretic's End-
"Sir?"
"Yes yes, I see the sensor feed." He sighed. He did not like the look of what was going on. He pressed a few keys on the console and brought up a holo-graphic map, showing the subspace signatures of the nearby Strigiforme system. "I want you to warp Wraith probes around the system, preferably away from any enemy contacts."
"I can do that sir."
-Transmission from: L. Jahgrin to: Strigiforme Empire-
You should be aware that the Third Battle Fleet is performing military combat maneuvers and training in the Halley system approximately 20 parsecs from your space. This system, as you know, houses a NeoRoman military outpost and has been host to combat trials for many years. As such, you may detect excessive signatures and weapons fire from the system. This is part of the maneuvering, and as such, is not a cause for alarm.

Re: Where we Left Off
I'd like it to be noted that 20 parsec sensor range and precision warping is so unholy OP.
The Strigiforme cargo ship Yyrkllivar carried hundreds of tonnes of vegetables to the station here. The probe warped in and was crushed under thousands of pounds of space turnips. The sensor system on the NeoRoman ships all simultaneously shorted from the turnip energy, and limited their range to something reasonable.
On the plus side, the NeoRomans can now harness the power of space turnips.

And it seems weirdly convenient you send sensor ships after he dropped stealth payloads.
Contrived Coincidence? And most ships are limited to a few AUs range on normal sensors, a few LY on hyperspatial/subspace sensors.

Re: Where we Left Off
I actually started writing the reply before ACH did his pirate thing, but the security council had enough with the weird psionic pulses and wanted to know what's going on. They didn't arrive in time to see the payloads.
And first off, these sensor's range is completely dependent on aperture radius. Instead of sensing EVERYTHING in a wide area, it focused it on the Strigiforme system to see only what's going on in that system. Too wide an aperture and too long a range and background noise overloads it. And this sensor only detects subspace signatures; it can't tell you anything about the ship, only that it's there. But signatures can be similar enough to approximate it to a certain ship. It is experimental, after all.
Think of it like a telescope. It removes outside interference to look at one object specifically, but as a consequence, you can't see anything else around it. And it's so sensitive that any nearby sources, even if not being focused on, will completely blind it. Like using a telescope during the day.
Also, I agree that precision warping is a bit OP. Changing it to probes around the system instead.

Re: Where we Left Off
Ok, that works. Some stipulations; you cannot trade this tech or sell it. It also runs off extremely hazardous chemicals extracted from fresh turnips, meaning that you can't have them stray far from your supply lines.

Re: Where we Left Off
I would never trade or sell this tech anyway; you know how picky NeoRomans are about technology.
Also, additional info; Basically, the ship is blind as a bat and dead in the water while in the focused aperture mode. It has to deactivate shields, weapons, engines, everything that could interfere with the readings. And other ships can't be too close either, so it's very vulnerable.
The ship is designed to operate long-range, so I can't agree with the straying from supply lines, but I can say that the system is extremely volatile as well while in a focused aperture. Meaning that you can hit it with a pea shooter and it'll detonate violently, while in use.

Re: Where we Left Off
Hexalan cruisers have standard MAC armaments capable of breaching most common bunkers with few hits, the four Campaigns were a non-nuclear alternative to the Solari's own artillery. As well, the Campaign and Onesty classes are equipped with minimal hangars, mostly for troop deployment but these were given fighters seeing as the heavy carrier is taking on that role for the most part. While an engagement is not expected, the Hexalans don't want to risk losing their new toys. Besides, the fighters are lightly armed with only dual gatling cannons, they couldn't take on a shielded frigate without support from a more heavily armed ship. It's also a bit difficult to put your orbital guns in place when you don't know where to put them.ACH0225 wrote:No more ships kids; you don't expect any naval engagement anyways; if anything, it should be troopships.

Written before I read the posts after this one, but I'd still like people to know the hangar and fighter stuff. Also, if anyone is interested, after some calculating, here's estimates for the battalion at Menya (a standard fleet houses two battalions). An infantry division is made of 4 squads of 7 men, that is 5 riflemen, a heavy weapons guy, and the squad leader, there are three infantry divisions present as you already know. The armored division is comprised of 5 tanks, 3 mechs (think AT-ST), and 7 light mechs (otherwise known as heavy exoskeletons). It's much less than they were in the Hexalan that's supposed to be in this, but I'd rather implement aspects of the revised Hexalan as a means of keeping things not-OP.
