Ivan2006 wrote:Let's agree that considering the way the modern battlefield works, it makes sense that no military is funding mechs larger than mules atm.
Those aren't mechs persay, more steadycams with legs. Really, the closest thing to a mech was that personal exoskeleton project that hasn't been anywhere since '08. The technology hasn't gotten far enough to make anything like this feasible.
Anyway, the point is that the technological requirements for a working mech or generally any walking vehicle are too high to field them in sufficient numbers to achieve any tactical advantage.
There are certain advantages to mechs, and I suspect them to be used on the battlefield eventually, but since we don't know either how technology will progress, therefore have no idea what other technologies will exist when the tech for legged propulsion is advanced and cheap enough for proper military usage, we have no idea what the first mechs would be equipped with. Add the uncertainty revolving around predictions of how the battlefield of the future would look like as well as the fact that those predictions don't typically go further than ~30 years, and throw unknown political developments into the mix, and noone knows what how feasible the concept of mechs would be on the battlefields of the time the technology first becomes available.

Tanks don't swap with their steps, so they're a more stable firing platform; plus, they're muuuuuuuuuch cheaper. Fielding 5mtanks for the price of a mech is probably easier.

But the torso there should be ok, the arms and legs I'm going to likely end up scaling back in terms of complexity anyway so it should be ok. Only change I might make to the torso, is currently the section that connects to the arms is sloped backwards, so I may flatten that out and add something on the back there, been playing a lot of Hawken lately so don't be surprised if I jam a rocket enigne there.
Definitely keep the sloped back, if you flatten it out it'll throw off the whole shape. The sloped part was really only meant for the shoulders, anyway, and it goes in towards the middle. I see the torso as having three main parts, the sides and the middle one, to which the cockpit is attatched. I'll draw it from some more angles so you can see what I mean.

This is what I have for the top-view, and a quick cockpit design. The floor to the cockpit doesn't go all the way to the transparent part, and the all of the front faces are clear, so there's more visibility.
Since this was really one of my earlier designs, the geometry will be awkward to model and there are several places that could use improvement, but I don't think the overall shape should be edited. I can redesign it if you give me a day or two. I think the legs would still be more complex than the redesigned torso.

Can we make mechs/planes that can't move, and therefore function as static defences? You could add all sorts of new shit for it, and also break mcheli's monopoly on turrets on Monorisu serverer.

Might lighten that and use it for the rail sniper.
I've also pretty much decided all the pre V3 stuff needs to be upgraded and sorted out. So I'll make actual models for all the guns (except the conventional ones which are * and nobody uses anyway). Also I need to designate the AF-15 and Scimitar actual hit boxes, which is a pain as neither exist in Techne, so I might re-do the Scimitar.

Well I'm yet to make the Sniper and the pistol, bullpup works for customisation though, so I'll use it for the main rifle.
Those two are the same gun by the way.
I don't think the other two are going to have the same sort of attachments, as they are pretty specialised anyway.
