Hey, I'm actually sort of working on something that should be fun, at least to me. And Tiel, call it what it is: Qaulity OC.

We threw everything into the mod, but things on that front sort of petered out due to our collective lack of commitment. After that, community interaction slowed down some (read: a lot). We need something aside from the mod to bring us together. I like Proto's suggestion of starting a server, or setting up a faction on a third-party server.

Personally, having our own server might work; but in all honesty, going from "modders" to "gamers" and working from that perspective might actually accomplish togetherness.

I feel like such an Iv saying so, but this is stuff that's been laid on the table before. Understand that I have to express a measure of...discontent, that this is only being considered after half the people here have left.

There is a server, just no one ever uses it. Dunno if it's a matter of exposure or just OMG TIEL FUG. It is paid until the end of next month, because lolautomatictransactions; I have absolutely zero interest in minecraft at this point so not sure where that's going.

We ned a server, if we have one to the end of the month that's fine, because I've got $113 sitting in ad.fly we can use for just that, should be able to run a decent server for a year from that.

I don't know shit about servers, and I don't have PayPal. I left the transaction details blank so I could transfer it to anyone. If anyone thinks it's worth a shot and knows anything about setting this up, PM me.

I do want to have a look at Monorisu's server first, they have a setup like what I envisioned we should use, but there's issues. I think I can solve them but its a slow process as I need to get LabJac to do everything.

But if we are doing anything fancy we should run it off hamachi while we get it set up and work out the bugs.

If possible other mods, Flan servers tend to work fine, but while modded servers have better gameplay, the ones I know of on are slightly difficult to get on. I think you can negate that by paying more attention into what you put into the mod pack.

But yeah, I can always make server exclusive stuff, * move but it makes it more unique, and that's like friggin gold dust in the current server climate.

An unmodded server is ideal for exposure. With Starquest now a thing it's not like there's really a chance of snagging that sci fi audience, anyway. Here's an idea - find a theme, and work off of it. Find out what you want to do. And please don't just overwhelmingly say Flan's, because you're not specifying anything about it or just what is intended to be done at all. Localized TDM? Some bastardized PS2-like? There are so many ideas floating about, one just needs to seize upon one of them. I have a lot of experience when it comes to setting up servers, so if you'd just give me something to work with I could probably go plugin hunting and test things out on my server, then pass the files on to you. Because lord knows I have as much commitment as a seaturtle when it comes to this sort of thing.

Edit: Truthfully Tau, I think you might be getting a bit ripped off with this deal. An entire VPS was really overkill for this installation, regardless of how cool the concept of a cloud based server must have seemed at the time. Should find a cheaper webhost, maybe one that offers a domain with the plan, too, seeing as this one is expiring in a month.

I'm currently looking at the whole advanced technology survival thing, but that would only apply if we choose to go modded. And I need to see how well it plays.

Though we'd have to make a solid mod pack, this before anything if we go modded, a poorly maintained one is fatal, and it would need to be perfect first time round. We would be safer unmodded, but it's a more difficult to be unique there.



But we need to decide if we go with or without mods. Without is safer and better for exposure as Tiel said, but it's also more limited as to what you can do, it's easy to be generic, if we go here we need to do something genuinely interesting, but we'll have more potential players.

If we go modded we have more liberty as to what the server plays like, plus we can have unique content, but as I said above, a major downside is you need a tight mod pack, which isn't as easy as it seems. Plus you wouldn't believe how many people are too lazy to click and drag a few things, not as many people will be willing to join, and the slightest issue with the mod pack will drive anyone away. And it's more difficult to keep up with MC versions, but this isn't as much of a problem with the new launcher.

a simple solution to the people not willing to download mods, is to set up a modpack, through a modpack service such as technic, or ftb. but that would require us to get permission from the mod owners. maybe, i will look into this.

If we go with flan FC, we have the guy who makes it and we can just ask flan(?). If we make a modpack, we could do a launcher-cool, but difficult- or a simple file that you just copy-paste into your folder and you're ready to go.
