For a matter of fact, the German R&D funding was based on ideology and eventually came down to what Hitler thought was most awesome.
Since he didn't have the technical knowledge to estimate how difficult a project would be to realize, projects like electrogravity engines for flying saucers and this thing turned out taking priority over stuff like an actual guided SAM which could have stopped the allied bombings easily if fielded in grat numbers.

It's actually the 'Schwerer Gustav' railway gun which needed over 3000 men to transport (mostly to lay the special tracks required for its movement) and then it could only fire 6 (if extremely large) shells a day.
It was devastating when it hit, but it was not good for anything than siege.

Been playing a ton of War Thunder. Bombers back then and... planes in general were so much cooler.

Well today the combat range of a fighter is much higher than in WWII, making any attempts of defending against them with guns pointless. That and you have special air surpremacy fighters for that now.

Modern aircraft aren't point defenseless, tney just use more ECM and countermeasures, because guns are ineffective.

Also, a major part of Hitler's dumb was the fact that he insisted on being offensive, even when the Allies were slamming Fortress Europe. Like the ME-262. He demanded it be adapted for bombing rather than interception, and that let the Allied air forces slam the German cities a whole lot more. But overall, it was Hitler's Gret Derp.
