The in-game picture makes it look really square, but the techne model is super rectangular, is that just the angle the picture was taken at?

Yes, I am going to round the body off a bit, maybe add spikes on the front

ok, added most of the shapes

I could probably pass this off as a standard Tank model, then add variations for different camos and such

I don't know about everyone else but I actually quite like this one, considering I suck at tanks

No, driver sits in that big box in the turret, I've added a seat and control panel, you'll see what I mean when I make textures.

Tanks really need the driver in the turret, otherwise it looks awkward, the other man reason why I abandoned the ATAGTV

Just a thought, make this a more cumbersome model of tank with modular turrets. Current one could be multipurpose but weaker in each aspect for it, a railgun, missile pod, etcetera.

6 treads would make it rather immobile for an MBT.

I was thinking something like that, but decided to put them all in one, but unfortunately I can make it only take certain types of ammo, which is annoying.

Also, Tiel, this is the future, you can have a tank with as many treads as you want, if you follow the rule of cool, which I do.
And also, you could actually make it more manoeuvrable, you could actually steer the treads, maybe even make them rotate all the way round, and make it crab, and don't forget anti grab systems, but I can't do that in Flans mod... Yet

Does the rule of cool also account for that smaller turret to the right whose firing arc is completely useless? xD

And as I've said before, authenticity plays a big part when it comes to sci fi media. It's the difference between Star Wars and half the stories in Analog.

You don't fire left or right, just up and down, and the turret turns, here, there's no need for it to have a decent firing arc, for the whole turret rotates around, the MG just has to point up and down, though If there was a need for a decent firing arc I would raise the rocket pod hire, and stick the MG just slightly above the main cannon, but that would look a bit cluttered.

And the whole things made out of boxes anyway, so I think I can pretty safely say that we aren't going to get much authenticity anyway.

And since when have I ever obeyed the laws of common sense and/or physics?

And hyper, the last land vehicle I did was a test to see if I could do something like that, but I can't

Can you raise the suspension? A Minecraft tank needs to be able to clear a minimum of 1m high vertical obstacles.
Even if the treads are mounted statically right now, we should be able to make them conform with the terrain later on.

Right now there is a gap of about 4 blips between the bottom of the wheel and the bottom of the chassis, I can raise this to six, but any higher and I'll have to re-do the wheels. 1m would be about 16 blips, so what I'll probably do, is something like this:

Image

Although I don't think there are that many tank models this high off the ground, and this is also the tank equivalent of the AR-12, so I doubt we'll actually use this one, I'll have made a better one by that time, but there's no reason not to try this.

problem.

moved the wheels down so that they would have 16 blips ground clearance (one minecraft block) and... well I don't know how to make it not look ridiculous.

ignore textures, they are in process, and I haven't mapped all the shapes yet.

Image

I think.. that I might be best off saying that this is only a mobile weapon platform, rather than an MBT, it just isn't proportioned right for it to have enough ground clearance to be an MBT, it would work better as a mobile AA or artillery turret, which is what I'm going to do. but I will raise the suspension a little, in order to make it a bit more mobile.

but then again, for a first real attempt at a ground vehicle, this hasn't gone too bad.

renaming it the Heavy Mobile Artillery Platform or HMAP, unless someone has a better idea.

added HMAP:

turns out that the ground clearance thing doesn't matter in Flans, but for FC, I'll have to take this into account.

This isn't my favorite model, but its not my worst either.

Back to the studio planes
