There isn't a chance that the pack will be taken down, two mods have confirmed this
But if anyone choose to comment on the matter, please use logic and reason

I've noticed a few problems, people seem to think they can just upload this themselves then distribute that's which is really annoying because several sites are holding information for the pack, but are hosting their own download, so I actually have no idea how many times this has been downloaded, though fortunately TheOrion from Minecraft-SMP.de is giving me a hand sorting this out, but if anyone comes across a site that is hosting their own download of this, tell me immediately, I already know about:
9mimecraft.net
Minecraft-forum.net
Mod-minecraft.org
Minecraft blogs is doing it, but they are being good guys and using the real download

The reason people rehost is because sites like mediashare have this tendency to go down (megaupload?). The very purpose of places like 9minecraft or mod-minecraft is to provide mirrors for mods so they can be downloaded regardless of what happens to the original upload. Being able to see how many downloads you have is a caveat, anyway...smacks a little of vanity

There are already two official uploads, although I have said that people should ask me before making a download link.
Also this means we probably hit 9000 downloads a few days before I posted
I don't mind as long as they ask me first, which none have

Duel them to the death? Sue them? Tell them you'll change the download unexpectedly so that theirs is horribly outdated? Send them a new download that completely breaks the game and displays a message saying where to get the real version? Tell their Internet provider?

The thing is Proto doesn't have any legal jurisdiction over his content. It's a mod for a mod, and was made almost entirely using someone else's tools.

Man it doesn't matter - it is his intellectual property. He doesn't make money on this but he owns every single bit of it and no one is allowed to redistribute it nor claim it is his. He made this as a mod for minecraft so judging by what you say notch can just take what he did, add it to the game and make money on it. He wouldn't do it but if he does proto can actually sue him , win his intellectual property back and prevent it being part of MC. OFC notch will probably say that he cannot upload his mod either but that still doesn't mean notch can use it in MC without his permission.
also a quick google search yells this:
MinecraftDownloadMod:
http://minecraftdownloadmod.com/flans-f ... 1-5-1.html
Also found some questionable sites distributing "FC pack" which is probably a virus couse I believe FC doesn't weight 600 MB ...
Most sites redirect to 9minecraft download which BTW to the time of this post still exists ...

Its more the fact that it's bloody rude that people mirror the download without asking me first, if they asked I would let them.
EDIT: looks like sites like 9mimecraft would actually be making money off this via ads,
EDIT2: I have had a response from minecraft-forum, they were offering money for the link, but it was peanuts, so I declined if I wanted to make money from it I could do so far more easily, but they have included the original link, so they aren't a problem anymore.

Potioncraft? Pistons?
The world of copyright is a realm of treachery. You don't really own anything, even the OS you're running on your computer.

If I made a mod, I'd be honored if Notch took my work. You made it for people to play, so people playing it is your goal.

Bring me the Mo' creatures now

, the latest is an example of jeb actually asking the creator of that mod to make the horses with him together. While pistons and potions I think they made alone - they again made them themselves. You do not exactly own the idea of potions for example, they are present in almost every game, but you cannot clone the exact meshes of the FC content pack for example and claim they are yours.
In our case there is no even need to decide who owns this property - they are not even hiding it and I'm sure prototype would allow them (actually he said that) to put a link as long as they do not make money on it.
