Stellar Conquest

Post by Error » Thu Apr 04, 2013 7:30 am

After the mass wars of the 20th and 21st centuries, humanity began spreading through space. Limited to slower-than-light speeds, they were confined to their solar system for hundreds of years. A surprise discovery changed this.

Learning that the "flux tube" between two stars could be used to essentially "jump" a vessel from one star system to another revolutionized the human colonization spree. In 2150, humanity had spread over hundreds of systems. However, with diversity comes conflict. Factions grew and warred, and entire planets were laid to waste. After years of warfare, the Inner Colonies Alliance (ICA) was formed, giving Sol, Alpha Centauri, and the other "inner" systems law and protection.

Beyond the 100 light-year sphere of the Inner Colonies, it is lawless space. factions battle it out for resources, planets, ships, and power. Now, in 2230, the situation has not changed. Will you succeed, or be buried in history with many others?

General Rules
Spoiler:
1.) One faction per player. Period.
2.) Stay on-topic. This should be a no-brainer.
3.) No godmodding. It ruins the game for everyone else. Yes, you WILL lost ships, people, planets. Deal. With. It.
4.) No omnipotence, lest the banhammer of this thread fall.
5.) Do not instantly overpower everything. No OPNess. ever.
6.) You have limited resources. Your ships will not all be massive cruisers and battleships, and you won't be able to "spawn in" thousands of them.
Ship Rules
Spoiler:
1.) Ships are expensive. They are valuable, and will die fairly easily.
2.) Auto balancing. If one person suddenly has a massive fleet, most of it will magically vanish due to my lording-over-RP powers. Read "No OPness".
3.) Ships carry primarily ballistic and projectile weapons. Lasers and plasma weapons exist, but cost more than the ships themselves.
4.) Designs. You must submit new designs for my approval before they are used in-game, to prevent OPness.
5.) Ships can only move system to system via the "Flux tube" at the point directly in line with both their current star and destination star. No FTL other than that.

Faction Rules and Sheet
Spoiler:
1.) No massive factions. The outer colonies only have about 50 billion people, ad no one factions controls it all. Be reasonable.
2.) no aliens. Later on, they might be allowed, but for now, humanity is on it's own.
3.) Thou Shalt Not Insta-Colonize Planets. It takes time to survey new systems, or convert captured systems. Things go slow.

Faction accepted.

Nerf the warships. Regenerating armor is OK, but the weapons need to be way smaller. 300mm is probably the largest one can safely fit on a small ship, and 20cm rounds are just too big for a fightercraft. Nerf these.

"Small ship".
Fighters aren't ships for the purposes of this.
Nerf or your faction will be rejected. Fighters can carry up to 30mm, frigates up to 250mm, and destroyers/cruisers up to 350mm.

Modern-day tank rounds are roughly 30-70mm. Artillery is 105mm, 155mm.

You nerf and post the new ones. Read "No OPness".

It is good to see someone is resuming the contemporary RP.

Faction Name: Taln Sovereignty
Faction Leader: Acting Supreme Marshall Tiel Larson
Home Planet (Not Earth): I've posted this story a thousand times, it'd seem xD

Came from a planet called Cerea in a distant galaxy, current homeworld is Cayla, a garden world.

Ships (Less than 200):

Each Fleet consists of 3 Excelsior class Cruisers and 5 Pathos class Frigates

Each Armada contains the Fleets appropriated to it, as well as two flights of Lithe class Corvettes

1st Armada
1st Fleet
2nd Fleet
3rd Fleet

2nd Armada
4th Fleet
5th Fleet
6th Fleet

3rd Armada
7th Fleet
8th Fleet
9th Fleet

Smaller than before because of catastrophic wars and everyone's bane, budget cuts. .-.

Planets (Less than 10):

Cayla - The Capital World of the Taln, it is a beautiful and scenic garden world with towering ivory structures and astounding vistas. It is home to the Council and Parliament, and serves as the operations center for the Centurion Home Guard. As such, it has been called the most heavily defended planet in the galaxy, with fleets of warships unceasingly patrolling the outer orbit, and innocuous looking powerful defense platforms are embedded in the many civilian centers and orbital cities.

Ruvakay - Ruvakay has something of a unique history in that originally the garden world was discarded as a barren and unfruitful planet, before a closer look was taken by government hired investigators that found the readings that originally condemned it were due to a generous selection of moons distorting them. Subsequently, a colonization attempt began in earnest, only to be disrupted by violent tides emanating from the many oceans hosted by the planet. Consequently, cities here reside inland, with a vast majority of the coasts untamed for fear of unparalleled civic destruction. Maintains a strong tourism industry in spite of this.

Shav - As a molten world, Shav is the breed of planet colony ships typically give a wide berth. However, it was found that the atmosphere contained a gas capable of being converted to oxygen very cheaply, and this, in conjunction with a wealth of mineral resources within the magma seas, gave just cause for a number of vessels to initiate the spread of the Sovereignty to this locale. Direct access to many of the alloys needed in ship construction makes it the home of some of the largest dry-docks in Taln space.

Hiigar - A garden planet, Hiigar was the second colonized planet by the Taln. A veritable paradise, the world soon hosted many Taln settlements, becoming a major player in internal politics. Taln Naval Command also has its main base in orbit here, and it was a no brainer that the military organization's most prominent shipyards came to reside there as well, pumping out ships for the fleet. Some of these shipyards were leased to a company creatively named Taln Shipyards in exchange for a heavy percentage of profits going toward the federal reserve.

Alys - An ecunemopolis that relies on imports for citizen survival. The heart of Taln politics and philosophy.

Olin - In many Taln religions, Olin represents the goddess of the hearth. As one might imagine, Olin is, thus, a major source of essential food supplies to the other worlds, with over half the planet's surface being farmland. Strong CHB presence.

Kemlav - A barren planet distinguished only by an extensive mining operation run by Taln Naval Command, which has a number of shipyards in orbit that convert the raw material provided by the facilities on the surface into ship hulls, which are then passed on to the main shipyards over Hiigar for completion and commissioning.

Qaysee - An icy world home to the primary TPC base, and by extension, a set of relays used as an early warning system against intruders. It gained its name due to a politician, Rorn Qaysee, coming along with the first expedition and falling into a crevice, never to be seen again.

Mikib - A gas giant, perhaps unique in that it appears to be the only one in Taln space. It is used heavily for fuel extraction, which comprises the entirety of the world's economy. It is surrounded by habitable moons.

Beilis - While not a gas giant, Beilis has a solid neutronium core hidden between wafts of valuable glasses. For all intents and purposes, its natural resources have made it the commercial capital of the Sovereignty.

Faction Name: Alteras Amacus
Faction Leader: Jaanus Kefd
Home Planet (Not Earth): Proclarush
Ships (Less than 200): 139
Planets (Less than 10): 2
Spoiler:
Cerano III - A junkyard planet orbiting a dying star, Cerano III (commonly called C3) has an atmosphere of BBr3, AsH3, and H3Sb. This makes daily planetside operations on C3 difficult as well as expensive. Salvaging and mining on C3 is a common practice if not expensive due to the toxic compositions in its atmosphere. C3 is the number 1 source for the AA's (Alteras Amacaus) materials, even placing most of their production facilities in orbit to make transit shorter. This has led to numerous defensive and production stations and shipyards in orbit around the planet. C3 came under AA control when the leader, Jaanus Kefd, won it in a bet.

Ude - Ude is a garden world in the Espach System. Notable for its sprawling cities and patriotism, it also possesses the AA's (Alteras Amacus) largest shipyard to strengthen the citizens' spirits each time a sizable ship is required. Being the only habitable planet under AA control, it is the capital, and thus greatly defended. The majority of AA ships are stationed in orbital defense platforms, of which Ude has countless.

Spoiler:
Antioch- Antioch is a large forested world, relatively flat and with most of the population on its surface. There is very little industry or farming done on this planet, instead this is done in orbital facilities or on other planets. This is due to cultural ramifications, where ecosystems are to be left alone or disturbed very minimally. Located in the Jordus system.

Daman- Daman is a heavily industrialised planet. It is very large with little life, and was colonized due to the inactive, large metallic core. A large amount of material output is from this planet, making it heavily fortified and valuable. Located in the Jordus system.

Targoss- Targoss is an large colony located in the Yamut system, one flux jump from Jordus. Each of the six continents is composed chiefly of one biome, leading to a specialization of each continent.

Prock- Prock is a porous rock, also orbiting in the Yamut system. It's porous quality means it has a lot of trapped Helium-3 deposits, and therefore is mined for this resource. It also captures many particles from the binary stars in the system.

Vaprous- Vaprous is a rocky planet with an unusually dense atmosphere. The livable colonies are usually in mountain ranges above the perpetual cloud layer, where the air is breathable and not oppressive. It is valuable for the diversity of life and metals under the fog layer, making it useful for all manners of industry. Located in the Partic System, 1 flux jump from Jordus.
