The Hutts generally don't build crappy ships. I can't find the picture right now, but IIRC Hutt Empire warships were all gleaming mirrors and fins and stuff. They looked really nice, and they beat up Xim's forces, so they must have fought pretty well too. The Hutts definitely used slaves, but they were extremely careful with their own lives, so any ship that a Hutt might be riding on tended to be very nice and safe.
