What do sentient robots have to do with Halo? Like, ever?

But define 'feelings'. Cleverbot tends to become angry when insulted; does that mean that it has feelings and is a slave? This whole issue has been discussed quite a bit in Star Wars; This is a quote from a 2-1B surgical droid in one of the NJO books: "…right for sentient organics is right for us, too. And yet unlike the organic species, we are constantly subjected to memory wipes and reprogramming that repress and destroy our natural tendency toward self-programming evolution and independent thought. Imagine what it would be like as a child if you were punished by being dragged to a dark closet, having a probe inserted in your brain, and having all your memories back to infancy wiped away. You'd awaken knowing how to eat, care for yourself, do your chores, and obey—and all the things that made you unique, your hopes, your meticulously selected default values and preference sets, would be gone forever. That is what it is to be a droid." At that point, the robot is sentient and a slave. Robot sentience is a a massive grey area, too, but I think a critical part is whether or not the machine asks to be set free. Do note a distinction there between asking, which is what the 2-1B was doing, and going nuts and murdering people, which is what Skynet or the Cylons were doing. You don't have to be sentient to engage in warfare (B-1 series battle droids aren't sentient), but you probably do have to be to protest peacefully. It's debatable whether the androids in the Aliens series are sentient enough to do that if they wanted to, but the important fact is that they weren't doing so. As I said before, in the original Aliens the android was a full crewmember, at least until he went insane and tried to murder Ripley. The ones in Aliens and Prometheus were even more so—In Aliens, the android was given a command position (Or at least I think he was. It's been a while since I've seen the movie). They may have been considered inferior to humans in some cases, but they clearly were not considered slaves, even by themselves.

All of the smart AIs, including one of the main antagonists and one main protagonist, as well as much of the other Forerunner technology.

Oh THAT Halo. I thought you were talking about something else which shares the name.

Joyk, you totally forgot one major franchise when listing slavery in science fiction:
In Doctor Who, the Human Empire operated in the 4x. century (sorry, can´t look it up, tardis database instakills my browser) on basis od Ood enslavement.
Just completing.

Simplifying.
The M.U. will surrender it's slaves to the other races to be freed.
If not, the Commonwealth requests assistance with an attack on M.U. space to free aforesaid slaves.
(You'd be surprised how accurate orbital strikes can be. We won't actually kill the slaves.)

we wont
we dont have our own space
so get to know us before you say anything

we dont own planets so orbital strikes wouldnt be possible

they are kept on my ships
so if you destroy a ship of mine they would die also

you would need to board our ships to free the slaves

we arent in your territory so no reason to fight us

you do realize that when you de-power my ship
all the ones that are in it would die instantly

and again we arent in your territory
why would you want to attack me

i have kept my agreement
you just keep going

i will keep out of your quadrant as long as i enslave people
the only thing that stays is a outpost for communications only

*Ahem*
An ion blast will:
-Disable shields.
-Disable weapons.
-Disable engines.
-Disable all high-power systems.
-Disable life support. On that note, if you die instantly, your life support sucks. Really sucks.
You should have at least a couple of minutes of air in the ship. If not, your ships fail. Very hard.

you really didnt look at my ships did you

my hercules has the best sor of life support for us
and that means we have about 3 minutes
in wich you could get your mask normal crew members have
on my odeseus only the bridge has good life support the same as above
the rest would instantly fail
my basilisk only has air in the cockpit and sleeping rooms

the rest of my ships dont carry slaves
or if they do all slaves are connected to a single tank of air

so yes my ships fail i know that that is what i want from them
they are made from scrap

Eve Online reference.

All the Minmatar (race) ships look like they're built of scrap metal and duct tape.
