also... my plan to create a drop pod/escape pod with no large engines has succeeded with 3 seperatrons (the tiny boosters) and 3 rockmax engines attached to 3 of the teeny tiny wheel shaped fuel containers. The boosters only survive for about 5 seconds and the rockmax fuel engines last for about 10. The atmosphere slows the pod down to about 200 m/s at about 1000 meters above the ground. I wait until 600 meters to fire the boosters which slow it down to about 100 meters per second. Then I wait until I'm about 100 meters above the ground and I fire the rockmax engines. They bring me down to about 8 meters per second just as I hit the ground. As you can imagine, if I'm over mountains, there is NO chance of me surviving XD

You could always use a poop Tom of RCS thrusters and see if that can slow it down.

maybe. i know i can lift a command pod with only a few rcs thrusters but i think rcs tanks, even the tiny linear ones, would make the pod heavy.

deorboting space stations is no longer something frowned upon as the scientists and engineers at KSC find the reentry effects look quite cool.
