Just a change of pace from our typical RPs, this one will have a medieval, feudalistic setting. The best comparison would be Naruto, and a lot of stuff will be drawn from that series.

Above is the playing area for this roleplay. I realize it's a lot to take in, so allow me to explain.
On Gaea (Earth), there are six proud nations living together, though it is a tenuous peace - subterfuge is common as each country constantly re-assesses their neighbor's powers with their militaries - the shinobi. Ninja by any other name, these men and women are masters of 'chakra' (magic), a type of energy generated by mankind's bodies that can be manipulated to cast 'ninjutsu' (spells) via sequences of handsigns and the expelling of a certain amount of chakra. Measuring of the amount exerted is of absolute importance - too much or too little can cause a jutsu to fail, and overdrawing the body's reserves of chakra almost always kills the shinobi performing it. Ninja are drilled through their youth to obtain control of the energy, to the point where mature shinobi can easily kill lesser men with a single touch of the finger should they focus their chakra there.
As a result, shinobi form the backbone of all standing armies on the planet, and are based in the five Hidden Ninja villages within each territory. Kages, the leaders of these villages, share a feudal relationship with the Lords of the five Ninja Nations - while they are free to seek their own agendas, it is expected that they will provide ninja for missions when commanded. In times of peace, the villages operate on a mercanic nature, taking on jobs within their respective provinces in return for payment that goes towards maintaining each village and training new generations of shinobi within them.
Villages
The villages are:
Waves -- Situated on a plateau overlooking the land they protect, the shinobi here specialize in water-based jutsu techniques.
Clans:
Attentus - Special Jutsu: Observation Technique (enhances vision tenfold for efficient reconnaisance, basic mimicry of enemy jutsu)
Unda - Special Jutsu: Mammoth Tide (Calls forth a massive torrent of water to overwhelm foes, though must be near a source to utilize effectively)
Dawn -- The ninja of Dawn fortify themselves in a massive fortress overlooking the Land of Sunset's beaches, where they train their blend of signature Taijutsu (physical combat) and water-oriented ninjutsu.
Clans:
Obex - Special Jutsu: Hagori Wall (summons a defensive barrier from the depths of the soil)
Pugnus - Special Jutsu: Chakra Fist (passive, members of Pugnus clan exhibit increased mastery of their chakra within their hands, bolstering their taijutsu)
Leaves -- Leaf shinobi dwell within a developed village cloaked with surrounding forests, an ironic environment for their lethal fire-based jutsu.
Clans:
Ardor - Special Jutsu: Dragon's Breath (conjures flames from the caster's very lungs using chakra)
Vis - Special Jutsu: Nature Mastery (Utilizes elements of nature to attack a foe. Bugs, birds, what's controlled depends on the caster's skill level)
Sand -- Little more than a glorified pit in the shifting desert, ninja here practice the art of sand manipulation.
Clans:
Calx - Special Jutsu: Terra Missile (propels a chunk of rock at the opponent)
Sol - Special Jutsu: Light Beam (focuses chakra into a tangible yellow beam composed of absorbed solar rays)
Rain -- Rain village ninja train in the art of electricity and ice jutsu within a swampy town constantly assailed by thunderstorms.
Clans:
Glacies - Special Jutsu: Ice Form (forms a protective layer of hardened ice around the caster's skin)
Incussus - Special Jutsu: Electric Strike (converts chakra into a ball of pure electricity in the caster's hand for combat)
Special Jutsus are a clan's unique trait, when you choose one that will be the first jutsu you have under your belt from the beginning. Be wary, though, as some of these will prove risky at lower levels. In addition to these jutsus, the shinobi have access to a variety of gear respecting the age and time:
Items
All of these can be bought whenever your character is within a Town, Port, or Village by specifying in your post the action of going to a store and the amount of items you wish to purchase.

The Kunai Knife (left) is the goto weapon for most ninja, servicing as a thrown projectile as well as a melee weapon. It is, however, fairly costly, at least compared to the Shuriken (right), which while being poor in hand-to-hand combat excels when thrown in large amounts at enemies. It's recommended you take at least a handful of each on each mission.

The Katana is a closerange weapon designed to cleave through ninja armor, though the weapon itself can be destroyed easily if not handled carefully. An awkward cut can easily end the sword's life fairly quickly.

Ninja Food Pills are stimulants, that is, while they will restore health and chakra near-instantaneously, the effects of eating them will probably show up in the next 'day'. Therefore it's probably wise to reserve them for dire situations.
Kunai: 90 Denar
Shuriken: 10 Denar
Katana: 210 Denar
Food Pill: 60 Denar
Unique weapons and potions may be found at shops in towns as the RP progresses, so be sure to check them out.
How this is going to work
After you formulate your character, you will have a total of 3 posts to make per real life day, as that constitutes one day of roleplay-time. The post you make will essentially specify what the heck you did, and if it's within reason I'll respond to it with the outcome in the cliche DnD style.
For example:
Random Guy wrote: I go to the town leader's building and look at the missions board
GM wrote: You see three postings on the wall.
D-Rank -- Walk a woman's dog. Reward: 40 Denar
D-Rank -- Trim a man's grass. Reward: 20 Denar
C-Rank -- Take care of a group of thugs in the local tavern. Reward: 140 Denar
Random Guy wrote: I take the C-Rank posting off the wall and go to the tavern.
GM wrote: You enter the tavern and see a group of ruffians roughing up an old man. Their clothes are ragged, but they appear to be wielding knives. What do you do?
Random Guy wrote: I use my taijutsu to take them down.
GM wrote: After a few punches, they are knocked unconcious. You did, however, manage to take a knife to the knee, taking away 30 HP. You are awarded 140 Denar. You cannot make anymore turns today.
Random Guy wrote: But that's bull. I'm level 10!
Something also worth noting: When you travel somewhere, specify. I've gone out of my way to create a map, just tell me where you're walking to, otherwise I'll start acting like a dumbarse and pretend I don't know what you're talking about. Are you swimming across the ocean, or are you walking across the Great Bridge of Fenway? This kind of stuff is important, y'know.GM wrote: *ignore*
In addition, you may at times find yourself at a lack of health. Everyone starts at 100, then 200 at Chunin, and finally 400 at Jonin. If you lose health, just go to a city and say you're going to the hospital in a post. The medical ninjas will patch you up right away for minimal cost. If you go to 0 health without healing, well, you are dead. I might end up resurrecting you to fight on the 'bad guys' team, but don't count on it.
Missions
The missions I give you depend on your Skill level. There are three, Genin, Chunin, and Jonin. Genin is a wet-behind-the-ears ninja who's just graduated the academy. As time progresses, though, you'll become a Chunin, a journeyman ninja who has access to C and B rank missions. After you've taken enough of those, eventually you'll become a Jonin, an elite ninja tackling A and S rank missions singlehandedly. It's not something that's judged by EXP or any of that nonsense; can't keep track of that, you just advance in rank after taking a few missions and participating in a few battles, at which point your jutsu gets stronger and you can get more favorable results from the job board, such as...
D- Rank Missions: Involve menial labor, basically petty work. Your skills will improve, albeit slowly.
C- Rank Missions: Usually relegated to Chunin, C-Rank missions involve actual combat such as killing wild raging beasts or taking care of gangs and criminals.
B- Rank Missions: The infamous 'escort' subtype. Need I say more? Probably. B- Rank missions, while comprising of escorting in peacetime, also makes up most war-related duties on the battlefield.
A- Rank Missions: Only Jonin can take these. They involve tricky maneuvering and advanced combat unsuitable for anyone not of the rank.
S- Rank Missions: The most deadly missions for only the most elite of the ninja. Assassinations, Massacres, anything a nation wants swept under its rug falls under this.
Character
Naturally, you are a shinobi, starting out as a genin. Here's the application process, post it below in the thread with the information filled out:
Code: Select all
Name: (First name, then clan name. You can choose from them under 'Villages' above.)
Favored Weapon: (You'll start with this, nothing outlandish please)
Backstory: (Self-explanatory, doesn't have to be too fancy.)
Theme song: (This is required, believe it or not. Just pick a piece of music that best describes your character's personality)
Example:
Name: Tiel Attentus
Favored Weapon: Katana
Backstory: Tiel went to the academy and graduated. Now he is a genin ready to serve his village.
Theme song:
Oh, one last thing
I am the gamemaster, but I will participate in the RP just like everyone else. In addition, I will sometimes serve up 'general announcements' that everyone, regardless of their location, will know about. These will include things like two Ninja Villages going to war, casualty reports, that sort of thing. Also, a A GREAT DEAL of gameplay concepts were drawn from the anime Naruto, and I recognize that. But please don't come running calling me unoriginal, all of this was typed up over a period of four hours and I did change up quite a few things.
As for the rules:
- No being a hyperlite. Don't make up stuff that doesn't fit the RP's theme.
- This is very much a dictatorship. What I say, goes. Question me over PMs, not in the thread.
- No offtopic in thread. Period. No OOC or any of that, if a need is felt then I will make a separate thread for not-directly-relevant discussion.
- And just to be cliche, have fun! I'll do my best to keep it entertaining, feel free to offer up suggestions via PMs.
