Does anyone know how the TFC Chisel works? I would ask on their forums but I'd have to create an account and everything and I'm too lazy. The chisel doesn't seem to chisel blocks by either right- or left-clicking, so I dunno what to do.

I thought you put it in the recipe (I don't use TFC).

You used to, and you may still for some stuff, but now it has 'tool modes' and depending on the mode it can do stuff like chisel blocks into 512th-blocks to make superdetailed statues and things. That's what I'm trying to figure out how to do.

Silly Jedi didn't have a hammer in his inventory. Chisels aren't much good without hammers. I have figured it out, and produced this masterpiece, which I call 'Steve': I absolutely love the carving. Mad respect for Bioxx. He did an incredible job on this. Carving is hard to do right (I messed up several times and had to start over; no takebacks with a chisel) but feels very natural. It took me Minecraft days to make even this very simple one, too, although I skipped the nights. I think that's probably as it should be given that I was chipping away nearly a cubic meter of granite. In-progress pictures of the statue:

So you chip off like 1/8^3 blocks? Ugh. That does not sound fun.

Yes. Each block becomes 512 sub-blocks, that can be removed one at a time to create incredibly detailed structures. It works on planks and all stone, which with TFC makes for dozens of chiselable blocks. You can also use the chisel to remove an entire layer, 64 subblocks, at once, so you don't have to remove the whole thing slowly if you want a smaller statue.

No, not as far as I'm aware. You can copy statues, though, so if you have to make a lot of a particular one you only have to get it right once.
