PlanetMinecraft Industrial Revolution Project Contest
Post
by Tell » Wed Oct 08, 2014 6:15 pm
Alright so I think we should do this contest on PlanetMinecraft:
http://www.planetminecraft.com/contests ... t-contest/
The contest is essentially us on
this map building a steampunk thing.
PlanetMinecraft wrote:This time, the goal is to build an industrial wonder. It's all up to your imagination.
All entries must be built on the custom map provided.
If any of you are interested please post some ideas for the build. As for hosting is concerned I could just setup a quick server with WorldEdit.
The contest entry period ends on November 1st so we should really get started if we are going to do this!
If we do actually win this and get some steam money, I'll be sure to share it equally with all that helped

Industrial revolution? Hm...
Offhand, i can think of Coal-fired power plant, railway/train factory, a rail yard, maybe a shipyard, possibly some sort of generic large factory?
Whatever we do, I shall enter; Minecraft is still quite fun, especially with an all-vanilla creative challenge.

I'd be happy to help, for an idea maybe we could include something like say The Lord of the rings dwarves castle forges, those were pretty awesome.

Continent-spanning would be tough, but huge factory should be a fun thingk.
So are we just tossing suggestions in for now?

I'd build a steampunk factory with lots of superficial pistons constantly moving, lots of coal and iron blocks, water boilers and large brick chimneys. Add a few steampunk Guns of Icarus Style airships delivering coal and iron ore.

Before you delve too deep into this,
Teamwork: you can recruit help from others but you are the mastermind/team leader. They must understand that only you can enter the final project and potentially win. If there is significant drama about who created the project, we will disqualify it.
Make sure you've sorted that. Also note that the prize isn't Steam
money, it's Steam
games, which may or may not be distributable to all contributors.

(Kzinti script, as best as can be displayed in Human characters, translated roughly as "For the Patriarchy!")

I'll do it for the fun, but if there are enough games to go around then we should all get some. It'll definitely depend on the game.

We probably won't even win though. Not to put a damper on everyone's spirit.
Also since bukkit has gone to shit recently. I'm trying to find a download to a bukkit server since all the main ones are down. If worst comes to worst though I'll just have to put up a normal minecraft server, without world edit.

Without world edit isn't the end of the world, just makes it a pain in the arse. With enough people, we can just use manual labour. If we get money though, best solution will be to just buy all FC members Mountain.
