According to rock paper shotgun Mojang has decided to make it illegal for servers to charge people a pay for perks style system.

That sucks, there go all the servers because they can't make money.

Donators should be able to slide but literal P2W crap won't be allowed. Notch has expressed his dislike for freemium games.

I don't understand exactly why he is stopping it beyond dislike though, if people are dumb enough to buy upgrades because they suck that's their fault.

From what I heard this has been in place since the start.

Moonrisu don't seem to be bothered by it.

BTW ACH you just missed a huge fight, found out who raided our old base as well.
