I'm attempting to remove the scourge otherwise known as 'Windows 8' from my dad's PC, upgrading the system to 7. I popped the install disc in and started the process, but when the installer restarted the PC the only thing that shows up is black. No BIOS, no beepity beeps, just black. There is nothing wrong with the monitor, and prior to this the PC worked just fine.

I'd like to pen it to a broken master boot record, but I imagine if that was the case I'd still get some sort of boot up screen. So, I dunno.

If you don't get a POST screen, you have to physically reset the motherboard memory somehow, or it is bricked. How you do this varies from motherboard to motherboard.

It's punishing you for switching from the horrible GLORIOUS W8 to the superior TOTALLY INFERIOR W7.

I'm just wondering why you got W8 in the first place O.o

Why the hell Microsoft thought it is a good idea ? It might be an opening other OSs will be able to abuse if Microsoft continues this way and maybe then it wont be freaking overpriced .

W8 is made for touchscreen computers and tablets.
And I fail to see how touchscreen computers are good for anything else than artists.

Yes it was pretty much designed for touch ...

Which is bad for everyday stuff and ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE for gaming.
Like what does these people think we do with our computers? Art? Write? That's what people with macs do.

Windows 8 is the only operating system I know that crashes every time you rut click in windows explorer (your documents), and that was on one of the fastest most powerful laptops I've seen.

So you're not getting a BIOS screen?

Well, shit. Reinstall the firmware if you can. If not, either get a new motherboard or (if it's a laptop) give up and return it.

If you get it working again, nuke the hard disk and install Zorin.

Delete system32

I removed the CMOS battery and it actually showed something upon booting up, a small error screen, but when you hit any of the options displayed on it the computer goes back into irresponsive black screen mode.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Removed hard drive, PC suddenly decides it will let me browse the menu. So I stuck it in my gaming desktop and am now formatting it to remove any vestiges of the 8 menace. When it's clean, I stick it back in dad's computer and boot from the 7 installation disc, profit.
