That Politics Thread

Everything is utterly asinine.

We are living in a society that will not trundle on for much further. I find it difficult to provide details that led me to this conclusion, but just look around you. Even our most potent energy sources, nuclear fission and fusion, rely on irrefutably finite materials. Our governments are in various states of decay and most host unacceptable levels of corruption.

I propose a system that could be accurately described as a 'United States of Earth'. This was the goal of the United Nations, but they have proven far too complacent to do much good, and membership is optional and determined largely by criteria that only applies to a select few western nations. A relic from the reign of superpowers, one might say. Rather, this new government should encompass any and all nations, and while every country could be considered to be in a state of occupation to ensure peace and nonviolence, these provinces should retain a large amount of autonomy in how they handle their affairs. The relation between the US's federal government and its states, if you will.

Also drawing from it would be the introduction of a 'National Council' comprising of a representative from each province to decide additions and modifications to the government's manifesto, counterbalanced by a Judiciary Board which would determine matters of security and law. This would be, in effect, the extent of federal control. The rest would be under the sway of local infrastructure and provincial leaders.

This has probably been brought up at least a few million times over the course of the past few decades alone, but I had to get that out there. The state of the human race is simply revolting at this point in time. Should probably take a Government course before I go Viva la Revolution, I know.

People will always find a reason to fight, it is almost instinctive to hold territory.

But hey, if there's a huge revolt, I know exactly where I'm going to camp out.

Viva la revolution, Union of Terra. Go Tiel.

And yes, humanity will decimate this planet and, (presuming it survives) will continue to do so. Ever notice humans don't learn?

What?

And just to clear things up, I know I'm not the first one to arrive at this conclusion nor the first to point it out. I don't see myself as some white knight bringing peace to the world or some s**t. I made this thread so we could discuss solutions to the problems that currently plague humanity. The OP contains a proposal to government, but not much else, and feel free to disagree with points brought up in it or make your own proposition and post.

This is just an environ to discuss political viewpoints without erupting into a poopstorm.

Not trying to be offensive, but given the history of the U.S., I'd rather they not represent the enitre planet.

Who then?
There´s noone else who´s democratic and has the power to make "forceful" arguments.
Ever noticed that forceful arguments usually end up with your economy crippled and thousands to millions dead.

If you're referring to the OP, I just said that due to the fact that the US's original governmental system is the closest to the one I'm suggesting. Since most people here are familiar with it, I'd thought it'd make the rest a little easier to soak in.

I could just as well used the SPQR as a reference point, but that's not exactly the most successful nation in history and most people aren't all that knowledgeable of it.

The US would be a province just like everyone else.

Tiel, as a member of a race that has watched humans since your birth, I'll tell you that humans are simply entering another cycle in history. A new age, another chapter in your book. What you are feeling is the feeling of a citizen in a nation that is declining. This is what a Sumerian felt at the end of their power, what an Ottoman felt, and what about any other declined civilization felt. Your decline is merely a fertilizer for a new generation, a new group to rise.
