Ok then. Some years back i cant think in something like that.

And now,THEY ARE OFFERING APPLY OPTIONS TO BECAME THE FIRST PEOPLE ON MARS!

With that in mind,i ask: What do you think about it? Can be real or "a country that we cant say the name" will screw everything to mantain the space monopoly? What is your opionion about how this will play out?

Space monopoly ? That is more of an experiment about just being there, like the moon. There is currently nothing practical about it as you should know that it's a one way ticket - those who go to there cannot return back. They will live in a complete isolation for the rest of their (probably short there) lives. This exists purely to satisfy hum curiosity and maybe those Martians will serve as test subjects to see the effects of Mars on humans during prolonged stays.

I think that is like a scouting party. We send someone and we see if is good: If is hell,we dont go. If is okay,we go there and live in "Brave new world".

But i think that is a "great leap for humanity"
The 21 century is a century of revolutions, discoveries and everything. Is something greater nothing before done. The last time that technology and ideology evolved was in renaiscence

Hey you know something ? "What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun."

Kohelet talks about it (or as you know it "Ecclesiastes" tome) and says that everything already exists and nothing new is made, we only see new things because we didn't see them before but they were there all time along. Just like this century last century was one of innovations, and the previous one and the one before it ... and neither was.

I agree.

My opinion:

MARS ONE

ROCKS!

Why go straight for colonies on Mars? You should try the moon first, once you can set up a colony on the Moon, then you can set up a colony on Mars.

Don't go for Mars one, go for Mars 11, but not Mars 13, remember what happened to Apollo 1?

But we really need to find a way for people to live on other planets, this one is getting crowded, and we can't just steal the Bugger colonies, we have to make our own.

It is indeed better to test it on the moon, simply because from the moon you can actually return .

And it takes less fuel to get there, plus you can just orbit around it for the same distance you would have to go to get to mars, then return.

Also the moon is a better option for a first space colony

IF they just want to try an engine they can send another drone. Plus you know what you just said is impossible right ? It currently takes around a year (maybe less) to get to Mars, it is possible they made something like this to get to the moon but not to Mars.

Not if you have warp drive, which we don't, but a warp drive is technically possible, just not practical

The engine they are building WOULD work and bring us to mars easily, IF we could produce 300 MW (the power of a fossil fuel power station).
And we do not want nuclear power, as we have to defend the astronauts against the radiation and that shield would be extra payload.

Comparing the extra weight of the Lead plates to the power you get from fusion reactors I believe it is not the reason not use fusion power. I have no doubt that there will be an engine that will get us to Mars in 2 weeks or less but I really doubt it exists now. And again if they just wanted to test an engine they would send out a drone.

Idea: Launch parts of a nuclear powered spaceship in pieces, assemble like ISS, ???, Profit.

Though to be honest I'd much rather we become more sustainable before even looking at Mars or other planets. Humans are even worse than the Tyranids when it comes to thinking about the long-term.
