Most of you have probably seen this before, but, they begin actually testing these things next year for fighters. Then, in maybe 20 years they will actually be deployed in large numbers. This is pretty cool to me, shows an old idea for sci fi coming to use in real life.

Railguns, coilguns, laser missile defense systems, microwave guns, magnetic resonance imaging, complete record of the human genome, cloning, plasma torches, a global electronic network. So much awesome stuff that we have already and things that we could have in a week if someone put some money into it.

Actually laser guns already exist. The problem is how you gonna use them as cutting through stuff is nice but a missile will still do more damage nowadays. It is best used as AA gun. Actually the USA was building an AA laser gun to counter short range missiles with Israel which mysteriously quitted the project and developed Iron Dome instead ...

Yes I did - the US military plans to install laser guns that will destroy incoming portable rockets and missiles on planes. Don't say I didn't.

'They've already done it, and I thought the article mentioned it. The Boeing Yal-something. It looks pretty cool. Anyways, sorry for doubting you.

The trick really is to get a constant laser system. The ones you have detect missile locks, and are inactive till its fired. Our missile defense systems quickly scan for known missile shapes, then spoof them pre-firing.
