The Reapers wouldn't be able to survive a fight against a fleet of Battlecruisers, Yamato Cannons would one-hit them :P

Why'd you split this...?

Anyhow, energy weapons bypass Reaper shields, and their weapons are all short ranged IIRC.

The hell is a Yamato cannon? Last time I checked the Yamato was a Japanese battleship

I think we just set a record for fastest derailment.

While the Yamato canons and laser weapons of the terran Battlecruisers would indeed bypass Reaper kinetic barriers, they would not be very effective.
Battlecruisers, overall, are quite fragile. They can be shot down by marines' gauss rifles. It also takes several Yamato canon shots to kill one, so the Yamato canon itself isn't actually that strong. After all, Mass Effect ship weapons have a kinetic energy equivalent to very powerful nuclear weapons as well and they didn't get much done.

Not to mention Battlecruisers have no shielding at all, their hulls are directly exposed to the Reaper's energy weapons.

Finally there's a quite noticeable difference in size, with Battlecruisers coming in at about 500 meters in length compared to Reapers measuring up to 2000m in length.

So while the Terrans would fare slightly better than the ME fleets, and might even come out victorious due to their gigantic fleets and ship production abilities, it certainly would not be a completely one-sided fight. They would take heavy losses.

OK, that was the last of the off-topic.

How would a MAC from Halo match up with a Yamato?

It all depends. Since this is exactly the same kind of weaponry used in Mass effect, meaning a large metal slug accelerated to unbelievable speeds, we'll use that as a comparison. I'll also need someone who has some skills at math and physics to do some calculations.

ME kinetic weapons accelerate their slugs ( 20kg projectile ) to 4025 KM per second, or 1.8% of the speed of light, for a 38 Kiloton impact.

Halo ship-based MAC cannons, the Yamato cannon equivalent, fire a 600 ton slug ( 544311 KG, which is absolutely ridiculous ) at a speed of only 30 km per second, so while the round is much larger, it carriers much less kinetic energy.

The orbital-based MAC cannons, on the other hand, fire a 3000 ton slug ( 2721554 kg ) at a speed of 12 000 Km/ second, resulting in a MUCH larger round travelling at triple the speed of ME weapons.

So ship-based MAC cannons would be rather useless, both compared to Yamato canons and against Reapers, but orbital MAC guns would most likely blow Reapers into space dust and make Yamato cannons look like water pistols in comparison.

If anyone can calculate how many kilotons or megatons the orbital MAC gun's slug releases on impact, we've got a number on what it takes to punch clean through a Covenant capital ship.

Master Chief did it. How many megatons is he?
