Perhaps you could up the KB limit to IDK a more reasonable number like 64 or 32 or 16 or possibly even 8??!!

There is a subforum for this, and the problem has already been noted there.
In the meantime while Shiva fixes it, consider using a host like
http://postimage.org to upload your avatar and use the external link feature in the User Control Panel.

Which part of it?
Are you copying down the 'Direct Link' after ULing it to Postimage? Or is the forum not recognizing it to begin with?

Yes it does. The avatar I'm using now is 8 and a bit. I couldn't host it on the forum, so I (somewhat ironically, but why not) hosted it with the image thing from the old forum and pasted in the link it gave me, and it works. The problem you have is probably that your avatar is more than 200x200 pixels. That's not the same thing.

I think my avatar was bigger than 200. If the forum isn't automatically resizing it, that's another issue.

I actually used the link that Tiel posted, and it worked out pretty well for me. I did have to size down the picture though, so that might be the issue you are having, as previously mentioned.

avatar sizing is really annoying

Well, shoot.
I believe the reason that threshold is there to begin with is because anything larger will utterly break the forum's formatting. I could have sworn, though, that I installed a mod back when I was making the forum that would automatically scale user-uploaded avatars. Hmm.

The old forum always scaled them for me, I never knew how people got gigantic ones on there, that totally ruined any topic they ever posted in.

In worst case, porting the pic from .png to .jpg should decrease the file size drastically (it made my avatar 1/10 of its former file size)

The good news is, bigger images won't screw with the formatting.
The bad news is, the formatting will screw with your bigger images.

I still use the old forum uploading system.
