Re: The more important Star Wars thread
Looks good, except two points:
a) advertised as a playstation exclusive
b) I think enough is said if I point out that EA can be used as a verb at this point.

From the german magazin gamestar:
- 4 planets (Tatooine, Sullust, Hoth and Endor)
- Setting is Episode 4-6
- no conquest mode
- no space fights
- no classes (you can choose equipment, but thers a weight limit)
- there can be one "boss" on each side e.g a sith or jedi (confirmed are Boba Fett and Darth Vader)
- no solo campaign, instead there are battlefront missions
- only 20vs20 player fight

Re: The more important Star Wars thread
Yeah; arbitrary classes were so silly in previous editions of Battlefront and Battlefield both. You could be rolling along in a tank, but people could just walk over and switch to a heavy trooper or something and quickly bring your advance to a halt. I'm glad the fact that everyone is already potentially every class is something they're recognizing and embracing.
I do see the threat of EA trying to make Battlefront into a more successful Medal of Honor IP; an infantry-focused shooter with little in the way of innovation. Hopefully the vehicles will save the game from such a fate. I wouldn't mind paying for maps out of pocket if they're at the quality of those shown; my only concern is that we seem to have taken a step backward. First Assault was set to have a lot more content than what tell's german friends think BF will ship with, and that was only supposed to be bait to test the market. Worrisome.

- Those are the four planets shown in that trailer. Have we any reason to believe there won't be others? I find it extremely (extremely) hard to believe that there won't be lots of others, as in previous games, but more specifically I'm certain it's wrong because the Battlefront panel at Celebration announced a Battle of Jakku free DLC to add in Episode 7 content once the movie's released.
- I don't have any evidence against this, but I'd be quite surprised if it turns out to be true.
- The trailer shows starfighters on surface maps, like in BF1. I tend to interpret this to mean that there won't be space-only maps like in BF2; my guess is we'll see more maps that have both ground and major space components, as was the original plan for BF3 before that got cancelled.
- This makes sense to me. In the trailer you see somebody with a jetpack as well as a rocket launcher; that doesn't make any sense as a prebuilt class but it's exactly the kind of thing a player might pull if given a choice. The rebel soldier seen with a DC-15s (I think; might also be an E-11 though) further supports that. Also the PSP BF games used the same system.
- Pretty much exactly the same as the hero system in BF2, which makes sense; that worked well enough.
- This also makes sense to me. The previous BF campaigns kinda sucked; that isn't what the game was designed for.
- This could be taken to mean there isn't a singleplayer mode at all, which I guess is theoretically possible but wouldn't make a whole lot of sense. If you're saying that the multiplayer will be limited to 20v20, sure, why not. Seems kinda small, but it's consistent with the rest of the series.

Re: The more important Star Wars thread
Ok, now that I have seen the trailer:
-They showing the PS4 logo in the start does not mean it's a PS4 exclusive, it just means they want to go all "HEY GUYS THE PS4 CAN TOTALLY MAKE IT LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THIS NO PROBLEM"
-They showing the PS4 logo does not mean it can look and run like that on PS4
-They saying "In-engine footage" does not mean "This is what the game will look like", not even on high-end PCs. It just means that the game engine can be used to make it look like that, if you make it run at like 1 FPS.
-I really hope you'll be able to play as the Empire, not just the rebellion.

Re: The more important Star Wars thread
this is expected to be multiplayer focused AFAIK, so I expect Empire as well as rebel stuff.

True, but the DICE representatives at the panel at Star Wars Celebration said that that's what the game will look like.Archduke Daynel wrote:-They saying "In-engine footage" does not mean "This is what the game will look like", not even on high-end PCs. Re: The more important Star Wars thread
are you suggesting there's a reason they wouldn't?
Re: The more important Star Wars thread
I'm saying that, one way or another, that isn't technically true but deceptive--either it should be taken at face value, like the people at the panel said, that the game looks like that, and is totally true, or it's just a lie and it isn't.Chairman_Tiel wrote:are you suggesting there's a reason they wouldn't?
EDIT: IGN says that there won't be any prequel stuff in the game at launch. They didn't say that in the panel, and it very much surprises me--I cannot for the life of me imagine why they would choose to make this the first game in the series that doesn't cover the entire saga.

Re: The more important Star Wars thread
EA: Challenge everything
I just bought bf4 the other day and I can definitely see prequel items being a DLC down the line given the amount of content locked beyond paywalls in the former. If it's up to spec with the rest of the game, though, I can't really complain. I'd much rather have the game in November and wait a few months to buy Clone Wars stuff than the alternative, and a lot of players share the sentiment. EA needs the release in that fiscal quarter, too.
