Didn't think about the intended audience, forgot to explain what it was. Sorry.

It's a $50 ham radio kit, which I'm currently using with a wire antenna made out of an Ethernet cable, a homebrew Morse key, and my little sister's penguin headphones. It works surprisingly well.

I cut the RJ connectors off and soldered the twisted pairs together end-to-end.

ah, yeah, if you like kinda disassemble the entire cable, that makes sense.
