But anyway this is why we need to counquer the earth unite the planet, so we can pay for this * and get 5.4 terabyte internet.

A few issues, One: How well does this cable handle distances?
two: EVERYONE would need it. that's probably in the range of trillions of meters of wiring.

Fiber optic stomps copper in range, infact it's main current use is for long range transmissions. Fiber also has no cross interference and is imune to electromagnetic radiation being nothing more then a silica glass tube which means no signal degradation near power lines or other fiber cables, fiber won't attract lightning like copper, fiber won't surge like copper, fiber won't electrocute you like copper. Fiber has a higher capacity then copper, requires less boosting stations then copper.

The real difficulty right now is to use fiber would require you to rewire your entire network, and that's expensive since it's building a brand new network. But it's a payoff down the road thing, if we slog through it now in thirty years it will have payed for itself in spades.

Once we get to a new planet and set up the internet there, we'll use this don't worry Shadow.
But replacing the lines of the whole Earth... unless we're starting to make multi-terabyte files we don't need it, simple as that. Until then the 1 GBPS provided by Google Fiber and some others is more than enough.

Where I live our entire Internet infrastructure is being replaced with fibre optic.

But I'm going to be at fucking University by the time it actually comes on line.

The FBI has the fastest LAN in the US and I think that's only 10 gigabytes per second! I... wow. I haven't words for this...
