I think the idea is that they're doing rather unhuman things or accentuating the parts of humanity that are generally glossed over and discarded. Like that's the point. It's supposed to be unsettling. I always thought that this needed some context though, I've only ever seen snippets of it or videos like this with no explanation.

Technically, you're right, but it's objectively dumb, as is any sort of 'art' that basically uses shock value to evoke feelings is... well, it's retarded, not sure how else to put it. You are right, though.
