Excuse me sir wat do?

As you may know, I have an inexplicably successful Youtube channel, thanks in no small part this one terrible mod review I did a while back. I've sorta put it on the backburner, kinda watching just to see how far it would go. Well, just broke 500 subs. And after looking at Ivan's YT thread I feel like maybe I, too, should do a thing. A good thing.

The question is what.

I'm busy as all hell these days, so LPs are out of the question (that's not to say I'd want to even if I wasn't lol), and interest in a budget gaming series I started a while back seems to have went down the crapper after I got a decent laptop. I know most, if not all, of you have youtube channels - what would you do in this position?

I would do full video reviews of every Star Wars LEGO set ever released.

You could make an FC RTS and then review that!

As an actual member of Futurecraft, you might consider doing something with the Futurecraft Flan's Mod pack.

Now, now. I don't want to go stealing tacokingbob's ideas.

Well, it hasn't been done before, I'll give you that. Shame you'd have to rob a bank to make it happen though xD

Not a bad idea, actually. If most of my subs are for that one MC video I'm sure it'd help Proto a bit. I haven't touched MC in so long though o_o

That's interesting. I know you're joking but I was in the shower thinking about how important it'd be to stand apart from the 9000 other gaming channels on YT, and it hit me that almost all of them are from one perspective - that of a gamer, a journalist, a reviewer, etc. None of it from the production side of things. And yeah, there's a reason for that, cuz content creation isn't all that fun to watch after the fact. There's a reason sethbling never films himself making one of those redstone monsters.

But I think if I just commentate really good, a series about making stuff for the project could probably be pulled off. Would be a nice experiment, at least.

If you make commentaries at important milestones it would be interesting. You can put a thread up in the dev section if you need some designs and ideas, which I know you probably do considering you posted something about needing building designs more than a week ago in the concepts and designs thread and no one has replied.

Only for the UCS Falcon. I can come up with most of the others.

And actually, I looked into getting that by buying all the pieces individually from Bricklink, and I think it's reached the point where that's actually cheaper than getting the set itself. Something to think about.

On topic though, I know nothing about Youtube and have no channel or anything, but making stuff for an RTS sounds like a reasonable way to make interesting videos.

I think I could use an in house review, Blurb make it interesting but don't quite know everything.

And a let's dev series would be fucking awful, I know what mine would be like, and it would be endless profanity.

Do animations. Can be shitty flash animations; just make them cool.

Or, you know, make videos of waffles falling over.

Something to do with networking. I'm sure a lot of people would find that interesting.

On a more serious note, why not more mod reviews? Don't change what works, change what doesn't.

Because you guys are so reliable in that regard xP

Hmm. You make a good point, yet I really want to stay away from something that's about as intriguing as...what's something that's dirt common? Oh, I know! Dirt. Yeah, it's interesting as dirt. At least to me, anyway - maybe I'm being a bit naive here but when I am into create the knowledge that at least twenty other people have done the same thing kinda dampens my..drive, if you will. I also don't really like Minecraft nowadays :P

Although, again as you say - maybe that's what people want. I think I can pull an Apple and start a 'premium' review series, that could work out pretty well.

The problem with animation is that they require a ton of work for a disproportionate return. It's something I intend to do more frequently in the future but I know I can't rely on it for the bread and butter of my content. Thanks for your thoughts!

Isn't that what people are into nowadays? xD

I can totally see it now, "Tiel & Proto: Epic Development Funtime"

In all seriousness though, I'm strongly considering the development thing. After I'm done with HW today gonna mess around and see if I can get something usable.

How'd you get the parts list for that? Does LEGO offer online manuals nowadays?
