Oh danm..
Get into an 80km orbit, and burn prograde as the Mun comes over the horizon. If done right (that is, if you don't burn too much or too little), you'll enter the Mun's sphere of influence on the way to apoapsis, and be able to put yourself into a stable orbit around the Mun by burning retrograde. I suggest doing this in the Map view so you can see what's happening.

I generally use MechanicalJeb for most of the maneuvers and to keep an eye on my ΔV on the way up, so I'd suggest you get that.

The Kethane plugin is handy if you have a fairly heavy lander and want to refuel after you've landed, but it adds extra complexity since you have to do multiple orbits around with your kethane detector running to detect a deposit. And then there's the fact that you have to land RIGHT ON TOP of a kethane deposit to be able to mine it, which requires insane skill that even I barely have. Also there's the added weight of the kethane converter, drills, kethane tank, the all-too-necessary huge-ass solar panels, etc.
