Redshirts is a series based on a (very good) novel of the same name by John Scalzi, who some of you may know is my favorite author. Redshirts is not my favorite of his books, but it's certainly good and I've read it a couple of times. It's substantially more complicated than 'Star Trek parody'. I have no idea to what extent that will be reflected in the show, but I'm not sure I can easily explain the book.
