Re: SPACE TRAVEL
You're going to have to show some sort of proof of that, because it's been impossible for a very long time. Yes, I've seen the Alcubierre drive and stuff like that, but they all require 'exotic matter', which is the same as saying they run on magic.

Re: SPACE TRAVEL
That may well be true, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with this conversation. It isn't an argument. It's the same as saying "I used to think the sky was green, but it turned out I was wrong. Now I think it's blue, but I was wrong when I thought it was green, so I must be wrong again now."

200 years ago it was impossible to go to moon. Or even Fly.
Look at today.
100 years ago it was hard to talk with people around the world
Now look at today
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE,JUST UNLIKELY!

Umm, no. That's not really how it works. Obviously I'm a huge fan of science fiction and all that, and I'd love to see this stuff happen, but seriously thinking that we're going to be able to travel faster than light is delusional. I suppose I'm not saying that, given thousands of years to work on it, we won't eventually find a way around it or something, but anyone who believes that we're going to be doing it at any point in the immediate future needs either supplementary physics courses or psychotherapy. It is impossible, in the same way it's impossible for me to make a trillion dollars appear in my lap just by wishing for it hard.

Re: SPACE TRAVEL
I've been thinking really hard about religion and science lately. Humanity is quickly coming to the point where we will be able to upload our brains into computers, and eventually becoming one with the computer itself. What if God is a being that lives in a computer, and he programmed this entire universe. It would make total sense. It makes the idea of an afterlife scientifically possible. You can program a video game any way you like. Same with the entire universe... if it were in a computer. God wouldnt even have to take the time to build each world individually. He could have set up a big bang, and then sped up time dilation, or he could have set everything to randomly generate. Even in Minecraft, no two mountains, ravines, caves, or even bigtrees are exactly the same.

Once you're talking about God being a computer-being, you're well beyond the point at which 'scientific' stops accurately describing your theories.CommanderKobialka wrote:It makes the idea of an afterlife scientifically possible.

Re: SPACE TRAVEL
Just saying, all of the rules we know are set up on a base of assumptions about the universe that we can neither fully model, nor begin to explain. And we know these rules weren't the same at the very beginning of the universe, and there's no reason to assume they necessarily have to be what they are observed to be in our local stretch of existence. So long as we still know next to nothing about the fundamental truth of the universe, it is too early to say with complete certainty that anything is impossible.Tau wrote:fr0stbyte124 wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if we could reshape the laws of physics within the next century or two.Spoiler:
There's actually an interesting argument that the Heisenberg uncertainty principle is the exact sort of thing you would see if the universe was a giant physics simulation, because it keeps the amount of useful information in the universe finite.Vergere wrote:Once you're talking about God being a computer-being, you're well beyond the point at which 'scientific' stops accurately describing your theories.CommanderKobialka wrote:It makes the idea of an afterlife scientifically possible.

Re: SPACE TRAVEL
i read an interesting book about humanity being a computer program. one day the program was updated and all of humanity changed into a something else. the people looked and acted very different. there were a few people that were considered "obsolete strings of code" and were left alone, hunted by the antivirus program if they touched anything electronic. it was an interesting idea.
