Talking about piracy isn't illegal. Nobody has posted any links, or discussed any sources, or even hinted to actually having gone and done piracy.

No actual piracy has occurred. Intent? perhaps, but I don't think that's quite illegal as it hasn't actually happened. The rules refer to the act of piracy, and maybe I'm blind, but I don't see any acts of piracy in this thread.

And yes, I am aware of my comment on the SoaSE thread, that was in violation, but was rectified about 20 minuted after. Your complaint would be valid there, but I'm not as sure if it applies to this situation.

I can always go round and censor all mention of pirates and tempban those involved (starting with myself).

It is the responsibility of all forum members to see that the rules are upheld. If only the Moderators care about the rules, what you have is anarchy being barely restrained by those with powers, and if that's the situation you want why would you make rules in the first place? The problem here is that no-one else complains when the rules are violated. So I say again: No. You can take away my Moderator powers, although I've never been given much of an explanation as to why, but you cannot make me stop caring about order on the forums.
LJS, no one really cares. If you have some impulsive need to call out violations of the rules, go ahead, but there are few here that need or want to be under your pretentious supervision.

In retrospect, mentioning [acquiring] seems to have been a bad idea...

So, I never thought I'd say this, but how about we kill the discussion and go back to topic?
Anyone know any free film editing software that doesn't suck?

As far as the OP, I recommend taking a look at Alternativeto
Pretty much lists all the alternatives available, whether they're free, and how other people feel about them.

I think maybe you'll understand why piracy is such a big deal when you go into the workforce and start paying for stuff with money that isn't someone else's. No one's terribly fond of that guy who sneaks into the party and craps in the punch bowl.
