Google sketch up can be used by anyone, I must say it's not really a skill knowing how to use it, however using it to do really awesome stuff would be a skill.
Though I must still say I would admire a hand made ship over a binvox, they require so much more effort.

Sketchup could be considered a gateway software. Get the hang of that, and then you can apply for a free student license for 3ds Max. Learn that, and congrats, you now have an advantage when you sign up for a computer graphics tech course.

Re: N.S.C.D. industrial/military production
Never used 3ds max, but I have used pro desktop, which is CAD, and is what got me into the whole modelling thing, though I didn't know we would us it until it was too late to choose to carry on with the course.
But I used sketchup after Prodesktop, so IDK what it's like a a gateway, but I had managed to do a pretty decent model of an apache gunship within 3 weeks of first using CAD software, I guess I could say that.
But I find blender awful, I mean its functional, but for actually making the models, I don't like it.

Re: N.S.C.D. industrial/military production
Sketchup is generally considered the easiest 3D software to pickup. One would think that after becoming familiar with the basic concepts of modelling, the learning curve for more advanced software like Maya or 3DS becomes a lot less steep.
In theory.

Re: N.S.C.D. industrial/military production
My only problem with sketchup is I find it a bit harder to make stuff exact, but I'm probably just doing it wrong, but for binvoxing, there is no point being exact as it'll likely get screwed up anyway, for minecraft it's perfect (almost)

IMO, the best program for Binvoxing is Wings3D. Lightweight, functional, and relatively easy to pick up. For basic hull shaping/brainstorming it really can't be beat, can use the SHIFT button to make things exact, too.

Here and whenever I finish itOctav3a wrote:Where and when?
slightly different with this ship as I have to take gameplay into account
and of course I'm going to need a server (to play this on, I'm ok building this solo), I am unable to run them due to something being terribly wrong with my hamachi and stuffs.

Yes, it's a good one, works pretty much perfectly for what I'm trying to do on this, plus it means I get more used to it so I can help more with Aurora and Outpost 19, though I need to put the ship in a 200 block deep crater.

Don't forget teh gunz !
Also assuming the Scythe or the Scimitar (dunno which you chose) is done what are you making next ? If the Atlas than pls make a new cockpit for it this one looks paperthin because of the thin floor. Best way is to make the shape without the cockpit and retexture part of it into a cockpit. This will also help to add a sense of scale in it.

It's been done for ages now.Iv121 wrote:Don't forget teh gunz !

And the Atlas required a new cockpit anyway, this one just recycled the AF-15 cockpit.
But the Atlas is going to be a lot bigger anyway, so it is unlikely it will have the thin effect.
